Need to find the right doc for me
Hi, I'm new here - but I love reading all your posts! I asked this question on the RNY message board and they suggested I ask it here. So here goes. I live in a small SE Kansas town where the nearest surgeon is 2-3 hours away. I attended a seminar in KC,KS on Sat. Was impressed with the doc, however since I am a self-pay I was a little upset by the cost. Can anyone help me out with the name of a great doc at a reasonable price. I don't want to sound like I'm "dr. shopping" but I realize that as a mom of 6 who is a self-pay I have to be realistic. I'm a little worried about going (to far) out of state or out of the US in case I have a problem. Besides the child care issues would be prohibitive. Thanks for any advice you can give. I reall appreciate it!!
Hi Kathryn,
Great job. I'm sure with the warmer weather coming you'll be able to get outside and that will make it more enjoyable to walk, and the Water walking will be great and a lot easier on your body.
I too am thinging of having WLS and will be a self-pay. I'm really concerned about adding the extra debt to my household. I saw your posting earlier and wondered if you had any advise. My insurance excludes anything for weight loss. Thanks from Missouri.
have you gone to MISH yet ?? They are great and I think there price is good I was self pay. The points they give you, you can use toward anything after your surgery including your fills. lots of options..beautiful place great staff....

This is my 1st time on this website and I am going to an informational seminar at MISH in Lenexa, KS. This seems to be the cheapest at 13,500 but they dont include fills, do you need alot of fills & how often. I am worried about complications since insurance doesn't cover this. Has anyone had regrets & is the weight loss really slow. I have 90 to 100 pounds to lose and am disabled & most places dont think I have enough problems or am overweight enough, except MISH said they would accept me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
This Hospital and Dr.'s are amazing. Both did my surgery as I was a double clap being so large. I am from Kansas and travel there about everyother month from Lousiville KY to see family and stay in a second home there. I am headed to town for my first fill 3/23/07. I was banded on 2/5/07. I have never heard a complaint about this DR or hospital nor have any of the women in the groups I have attended had any complications. Because of my size my surgery was 16,500.00 and worth it. The hospital offers points to use toward fills and other needs. You earn them by attending groups /lectures and listening to the psyc. speak ...ALL of these things take place on the same day once a month on a saturday. The women I met are wonderful I had only attended one group and they all emailed me encouraging I will do great and be fine. As I have never had surgery before. DR K and staff are worth every penny and the drive. There web site tells you alot. Go see the pac. corner and read what others have wrote about it. If you dont mind me asking What is your disability? My fiance is in a wheelchair and I am just to overweight ....I thought of our future and how he will need me in is later years. And I had to do this for myself too. It will being me a better quality of life and longer. PLEASE feel free to email me direct . I will answer your questions and give you an email addy's of some of the ladies in the support group. Might you be able to do ligh****er exercise? sitting an wading or so on? [email protected]
I am a self pay from wichita area and I am traveling to Edmond Oklahoma to a WONDERFUL Bariatric hospital the total cost including everything for 1 year (fills and all) is $15,000, My surgeon is Dr. Broussard with my surgery date around the corner(3-19) It is about 140 miles and worth every second! Good luck to you. Amanda

I am a self pay and had went to Dr. Hoehn in Shawnee Mission, KS. His group is fantastic. I had the lapband and so for the surgeons fee and hospital fees it cost me $16,200. It includes 1 yr post op visits and fills, any bloodwork needed prior to surgery, ekg's, and any other testing you require, also post op blood work and testing if needed. For his program he does require you to see a phycologist and dietian before you are ok'd for surgery. Which I am so glad he had or I think I would be just messed up and not in the right place mentally. They also have support group once a month.
