Thinking about having Lap Band surgery and have a couple of questions!!!!!!!
I am from iowa i had surgery in mexico 2-26-07 and i am getting aftercare in kasnas. I have not been hungrey so far at all i actually just have to set down at meal times and drink my soup or protein drink but have to make myself do this otherwise i would skip it because i don't get the hunger pains i hope this continues for the long haul. Surgery isn't that bad i am on pain meds but the only pain i am having is a little soreness and my port site hurts. But its really not that bad. I am glad i have done it i lost 10lb this week since i had it done i hope the weight keeps coming off like that. Best wishes misty
Hi Tamara - There is a period of time that we call "Bandster hell" which refers to the time *after* you're healed (usually anywhere between 2-6 weeks postop) and the time that you've had enough fills that you have some good restriction (anywhere from 3-6 fills, on average). You can have some hunger during that time, but it is easily managed. Some people (of any surgery type) complain of having problems with "head hunger" which is like mourning the loss of food, but that can be dealt with as well.
I can't say that I've ever had a problem with it, and I've been banded a year and four months. In fact, I'm relieved to feel some hunger at times, or I think I would forget to eat! LOL! Never thought I would say that!!
Feel free to send me an email if you have more questions. There's a WLS support group in Hutch and I have a dear friend there that I could put you in touch with who also has a band. She would be glad to answer your questions too!
Best of luck,
~Tiffany
I had lap band on 12/14/05 and had to have it removed 11/7/06. It had grown into my stomach wall. I actually started experiencing pain in April of 2006 - horrible pain but my surgeon would not listen to me. The weight loss is really slow. I never felt the resistance they talk about. I contracted a super-bug staph infection known as MRSA when I had it removed and almost died. Ambulance rides, 20 day stays in the hospital, thousands of dollars worth of new debt...I paid $15,000 to have the stupid thing put in to begin with because my insurance would not cover it. Do i regret having it??? YES - I am the poster woman for DO NOT HAVE THE LAPBAND!!!!
