I am in the process of getting the needed evals before my surgeon will submit to my insurance company. Can anyone give me some idea of what I should expect from a psych eval. Did you use a psychologist or a psychiatrist? Did you submit a report to your insurance or just physicians notes? Did you have just one visit or is it required to have more than one? What about price...one dr quoted $800.00 and another quoted $200.00. Any info will help. Thanks!

I'm in Great Bend. My psych eval starts this week. It is $250 and I have to use a psychiatrist at The Center here. My first visit is a paper test they said will take about 2 hours. The next one is an interview. They will fax my results to my surgeon and they have been gathering the info to give the insurance company. Hope that helps.

Paper test that takes 2 hours means you will likely be taking the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory aka MMPI. It is very boring because there is basically 20 questions on the damn thing but you must give over 500 yes or no answers. The questions are asked over and over in different wording. There is a method to their madness. Doing it this way makes the test virtually impossible to fake. Much of the time people who are taking the test either don't know or don't want the dr to know what is up with them. By looking at the results, the dr. will be able to tell pretty much everything about you. Spooky really.

My sister and I went to a Dr Jones in Gladstone Missosuri. He gives you the MMPI test. It is a 587 questionnaire yes or no and it takes about 2 hours. He only charged us 125.00 each which I thought wa very reasonable. He faxed my result to my Surgeon and that was all I had to do. His number is 816-453-7473. Hope this helps. Ginger

Hi, I saw a psychologist in OPKS. I had only one visit in which the insurance paid. I just had to pay my specialist copay of $30. He basically asked me questions beginning from my childhood to present, talked about the surgery. The visit lasted for about 1 hr. Then a few days later, I went to pickup his report which was $150. The insurance did not pay any on the report. That was my whole psych eval. Very painless and he was very nice. God Bless. Remember, THE LORD WILL PROVIDE.

I had my psych eval with a Psychologist here in Topeka and I didn't have to take the MMPI - we just met for 4 sessions and I got the preapproval from my insurance for the eval so I was only out the co-pays ($20 per session for me).
