No hope Kansas?
I dont have insurance but was trying to find insurance here in SW Kansas and none of them cover any weight loss anything. Is there nothing we can do here in KS? I wonder how hard it is to get medicaid and if they even pay for such a thing. I already have student loans out the wazzoo so it looks like I may have to take out an enormous loan if I want this surgery. I was wondering if any one here has any ideas for me. Thanks a bunch:) 260lbs, 28yrs old, 5'3
Unfortunately, in the state of Kansas there are virtually no insurance companies that cover this surgery. The only option is if the company you work for is head quartered out of state. And unfortunately, medicaid excludes this surgery right now too.
I urge you to contact your local kansas legislator to speak about this injustice. I have a thread talking about this issue.
Good luck! I am on the same mission!

Thanks Chad. It really just doesnt make any sense. Why does the KCKS area have it covered but the rest of the state doesnt? That just seems so odd to me. I will contact them. So I guess I either have to move or go into serious debt. I do know a lady that I worked with that got her WLS approved and had the surgery 3 yrs ago she worked for USD 457 here in Garden City, but I hated working for the school system. Anyway thanks for your post.
Hi,
Wanted to give you more information on Norman ,OK. It is called Oklahoma Weight Loss OPtions: Phone Numbers; 405-360-7100, or 800-599-8010. Their website is
www.owlo.com. Good Luck, it is sad that you have to look out of state. Addictics get more empathy in this state, than over weight people do. I know of two people that have gone there. One had ins. and she has lost 200 lbs. She said it was a good place. The other one is only about 3 months out, she was on medicaid and is doing well. I don't know how much she has lost at this point. Hope this is of some help. CB

Does anyone know where I can get fills done in or near Wichita KS?
Hi Julie,
I saw your post. I am in Topeka and I don't have insurance either. I have my doctorate student loans...so I totally understand about the loan thing. I have been turned down for financing repeatedly because the income to debt ratio is outrageous....so......I applied at mylapbandsurgery.com and i got financed for 4000. Not too bad, I have to come up with 3500 to get the rest....Yes, I am going to Mexico. I am a physician myself and have done my research and that is where I am going. I found a place 5 minutes from my work...TallGrass who take mexican bandsters and they will do my fills. I am so lucky that way. If you haven't found out about anything else since this post, mybe you can check it out. Tell Carolyn you heard about the site from me...just say Dr. Liz....she should know who I am.....Anyways, good lluck in your search......wrtie me back if you want.

Hi Liz,
My fiance is trying to have the lap band surgery. He has no insurance and has been turned down for loans. He has found mylapbandsurgery.com and we have gotten the financing for him to schedule the surgery. However, I am extremely skeptical because of the stereotype that mexico often has. I am really excited that he is going to be able to have the surgery for half of what it cost in the states, and I really want him to be around for our 25th wedding aniversary. But, the price seems almost too good to be true. What information did you find that reassured you about mylapbandsurgery.com? thanks so much for your help!!!
