I went to see my primary care doc who said I should go see a plastic surgeon regarding all the extra skin on my abdomen. I've been getting yeast infections for the past 16 months. She gave me the impression insurance would probably cover it. I checked with my insurance company and they said they would cover it if it was submitted as a bariatric procedure and not a purely cosmetic procedure. Well here is the problem I am facing so far....all the surgeons I have called on the list I have of surgeons that participate with United Healthcare have said the same thing. They won't submit to insurance for a tummy tuck. Am I doing something wrong? This doesn't make any sense to me.

I would ask why not? Has your primary physician written a letter regarding your yeast infections to any one of those physicians? Where have you been to see a plastic surgeron? Do they not understand that you are having a yeast infection problem? That would be one of the reasons to have your primary care physician to write to them regarding you. It also might be that UHC does not pay very well on anything. That could be why they don't want to submit it. Tell me where you have gone and who you have seen? I am in the medical field and I might be able to direct you if I know who you have seen. K D

I've called a number of doctors on the list for UHC. Dr. Hall, Dr. Cannova, Dr. Quinn. I know Monarch Plastic Surgery said they wouldn't take insurance for a tummy tuck regardless of the reason. I have an appointment on Friday for a consult with Dr. Hynes at St. Joseph Med Center. I didn't ask about insurance yet. I thought I would explain my situation when I went in. I guess it can't hurt since the consult is free. Everyone else I have called said the same thing as Monarch. They won't submit to insurance for a tummy tuck.

I had Dr Lawrence at KU remove a lesion from my face (with insurance)...he said he would be able to do a tummy tuck down the road, but truthfully, I didn't pin him down about the insurance. I did run into the same issue with getting the lesion removed...the first couple of plastic surgeons that I tried no longer took insurance...period. Debbie

I would rephrase the question..... call it an APRON removal, and or Paneaus (sp?) This makes it MEDICAL and NOT COSMETIC Worth a shot
