Desperate need of help!!
My friend is way over 600 pounds and is in need of help. She does not like to diet, she has tried many weight programs, no doctor will perform surgery unless she losses some of the weight.
My friend has been diagnoses with sleep apnea, depression, type 2 diabetic, high blood pressure and many other diagnoses. I fear for my friend for someday she just might stop breathing during her sleep.
Does anyone know of an hospital in KANSAS that will take my friend and hospitalize her until she can lose a few hundred prounds before she attempts to have the bariatric surgery. Please Please let me know with any answers..
A very sad friend
Is there health extremely poor? Have they been turned down for WLS due to their weight? I was well over 400 pounds and have friends that were 600 and 700 pounds when they had surgery. You don't always have to lose weight to have surgery. Without knowing the background on your friend it would be hard to suggest what they might consider doing. How about having her contact Member Services here at ObesityHelp - we might be able to assist her in locating a surgeon in her area.
She can call Toll Free 866-957-4636 from 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday (or anytime and leave a message for a return call). This is a free service.

Thanks for your reply, I am new at this, what is WLS?.....Yes her health is extremely poor, she has fallen down to her knees many of times due to the weight. She has been to the hospital several occasions due to her falling, they keep her for a day or two and then release her once they find out there are no injurys or damage to her knees. They can't even x-ray her or even have a MRI done, because the table will not with stand the weight.
Thanks again for the reply, i will contact Member Services
Where in kansas are you? She might want to try liv lite in junction city, ks. that's where im going through, and so far they seem pretty awesome. However if the dr's are telling her to lose some weight before the surgery, it's for her own good. It decreases the chance of something bad happening on the surgery table. I'm pretty sure a 10lb loss is better than nothing. Maybe she should get in touch with a nutritionist, because it seems like the only way she'll have the surgery is if she does lose the weight first. And there are insurance companies that want you to lose some weight first. And if she dosent do it, then im sorry but you can't help those that dont want to help themselves.
Definitely contact LivLite at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City. Their staff includes a dietian who could help her out. Additionally, the surgeons are wonderful folk who will work with the patient to get their goals achieved.
Please email me personally if you need contact information for LivLite in JC.
