Well it looks like when your babysitting and their taking a nap, to get out that newspaper and see if you can get a job with insurance. You have to at least try.

It doesn't suprise me to hear that no state employee insurance covers WLS. This state seems to have it in for WLS. Medicaid is partialy federaly funded. However each state also puts into the pot and is control of the program itself. A federal mandate could could fix that though. There have been cases that I have read here where people have relocated to states where Medicaid does pay for WLS.

You know I was thinking the same thing. This state sometimes takes awhile to just get up to speed with the latest happenings and technologies, etc. So I am hoping that over time they will add the coverage. Maybe I am just hoping for too much, but I feel I shouldn't have to leave my current job just to get insurance to cover this surgery. I feel that the surgery should be covered by my insurance, it would be one thing if they gave us a variety of options and one covered that was more expensive etc. but we have no option. I think it's borderline discrimination for denying treatment of a proven tool to help fight a disease. Maybe I am fighting a losing battle, but I have been on contact with Governor Sebelius, Tom Hawk, and Sydney Carlin regarding this issue and the need for covering of WLS in our not just the state employee program but all health insurances in the state of Kansas. I do hear some positive feedback from them and are at least forwarding my view to the "decision makers". I have tried contacting other state representatives with no responses. The ones listed above where the only ones that seemed to read my emails and care. If that doesn't work then I will seek other options.
