New at this

Hi all I am currently in Manhattan KS, and I am new at this the message board and the surgery. I am going for the RNY I am covered under Tricare. I am going to Topeka on 11-14 and am kinda nervous dont know much what to expect. I hope all goes well any input about what the first appt is like. Do they set weight loss goals for you prior to the surgery, are they pretty thourough?

I think whether they have weight loss goals prior to surgery depends alot on which program or which doctor and even insurance sometimes. Some also have to have a 6 month diet program monitored by a doctor. It really depends alot. I haven't went to any meetings to find anything out, but I have been researching for several years about Weight Loss Surgery. So far, I haven't started the process at all, because my insurance doesn't cover crap and I thought it was a waste to even bother. Now I am fighting back, but realize I am in for a really long wait or I might have to find a job with different insurance if I really want this surgery. So I am new to the process of getting approved for the surgery etc. But I may have a shot at a job with insurance that approves this surgery, but it will be a paycut. Don't know what to do. Who are you going to in Topeka?

Hi There I had my RNY back in MAy at Topeka and I have Tricare to... The ppl at Tall grass are great... I am sure that you have been to your appt. but no they dont set up a weight loss goal.... It will be 6 months next week and I have lost 70 pounds, and I fill great.... Good luck and if you need anything let me know.... Christie

Hi, thanks for the input, so who was your surgeon? How long were you out of work? Have to stay in the hospital?

Hi My Dr. is Dunshee and he is great but everyone up there is great and very willing to help... I had my RNY on May 25 that was a Thru. and I was home by 1:00 in the afternoon on Sat. I didnt feel like doing much for the first week, and then I did things slow for the next week... After that I was feeling pretty good.... My Dr will be Dr. hamilton. Were you on a 10 day liquid diet prior to surgery? If so what did it consist of?

Hi There, Yes I was and it is about of Broth and jello , popsicles no sugar add fudgsicles, atkins shakes tea coffee diet sodes water .... You really need to stick to the diet... It is very hard but you can do it.. A friend of mine had the RNY a week after I did and Dr. Hamilton was her DR.. She really liked him... Talk to you later Christie
