Hi everyone. I am new to the Kansas board. Thought I would check and see if anyone in the Wichita area had Preferred Plus of Kansas insurance. I am in the process of doing a mandatory 6 month physician supervised program in order to qualify for the procedure. Got denied the first time because I had not done that yet. I am really needing this to happen as soon as possible. I am scared that there will be something else at the end of the 6 months that might delay it even further.

Welcome, I too, have ppk, I live outside of Wichita and got thru all of my classes and found out that I too have to do the 6 mo of supervised weightloss. What makes no sense to me, is that they say that it has to be unsucessfull???? who would pay that kind of money to fail? anyhow, I am half way there. Good Luck with your journey!

See that is crazy. I don't understand why they want you to fail. I can understand wanting to see if you can stick with a program or if you would be successful with a program...but just to do it so you can fail seems silly. Who is your doctor? Is it someone here local? I ended up going with a doctor in Tulsa, Ok. because the doctors here wouldn't take me. I was too heavy. They wanted me to go on a diet and lose the weight...I thought to myself...if I could do that, I wouldn't need the surgery!

Welcome to the board Sara! I'm sorry you have to go through that. Don't insurance companies realize how ridiculous they are? Probably not. I wish you luck with failing your program so you can have your surgery. LOL!

Hey Sara! I am new to the Kansas message Board as well. I have Preferred Health not sure if they are under the same umbrella or not...but I did wonder if you have turned in a letter of medical necessity? Also, do they have an appeals process? I would not just comply if your health is at risk. If you have most of the "comorbidity" issues that are under the umbrella of Obesity...and time is of the essence...I would definately appeal with the help of your primary care physician. Good luck Sara...I too am about to begin my journey...not as far along in the process as you. Vera
