I have been looking into the Lab-Band for about 6 months and finaly met with Dr.Wanda. I am so excited to finally have a tool to help me win the battle with my weight. I am nervous about after the sugery. As many of you understand food has always played such a big part in my life, it was there to comfort me when I was sad, give me somthing to do when I was board, celebrate with when I was happy. I know that a lot of the method behind this tool is that you have to modify your eating habits. My question is do you feel like you are missing out after the surgery? Also I have been looking for protien supplements any sugestions on ones that taste good and don't break the bank? Thanks Loywa

Laura, Congratulations on getting a date! I am pre-op too. I will have RNY on September 8th in Topeka at Tallgrass. I hope that all goes well for you! Shelley PS Where do you live? I saw that you have BC/BS from Arkansas. I live in Wichita, but I am from Blytheville, AR!

Congratulations Laura! I understand about being nervous about what life will be like after you're banded. There is certainly an adjustment period afterwards where we have to get used to what our new stomachs can tolerate and what new eating habits we need to have. But, I can say that for ME it was absolutely worth it. I don't miss food. In fact, its not even a big ordeal to choose which restaurant my family and I will eat at because I don't care that much anymore. LOL Food is not a big part of my life. The rest of my life is a big part of my life! I have more energy to be out doing things instead of thinking about what the next meal is going to be. I feel like I have been released from the burden of food. I hear a lot of people talk about the Unjury protein, but I tried it and really did not like the flavor at all. I just take plain ol' Carnation instant breakfast every morning. I have pretty good restriction at this point, so a liquid breakfast is best for me (I used to not eat breakfast at all, so this is actually an improvement!). I also take a multivitamin every morning. We don't have malabsorption issues, so start each meal with protein and you should be able to consume as much as you need in a day. Good luc****ep us posted! ~Tiffany

There is Protein Delite (I get it from www.bariatriceating.com) that tastes pretty good. I go for the banana yogurt flavor. It is really good when you make it with skim milk. It is has been over 2 years since I had my RNY. I will admit there are times I still miss my stomach (like Thanksgiving! ) Food will always be an issue for me. But if you stick with your habits you will amaze yourself. I have lost around 160 pounds total (I lost an extra 10 after giving birth to my daughter in June). All in all WLS has saved my life and I would do it again in a heartbeat! Valena

Good for you Loywa! I wish I could help with the protein advice, I have yet to find something I can drink or eat with pleasure. If you find somehting let me know, pleaaassseee! Well wishes on your surgery, you will be fine. There is a Lab band forum as well and also a forum for those who are having surgery when you are just in case you didn't know.
