Hello, First time poster... I have opted to self pay for WLS and I heard that there is a Doctor in Topeka that is considerably less expensive then others around the KC Metropolitan area. Does anyone know at all who this is? The doctor was featured on Fox Four News several months ago.. sometime last year. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Heather

Hi Triple! Isn't our little Kansas board beginning to blossom? Nice to see you, you are so helpful to everyone, I see you while I lurk giving everyone encouragement. These good people in here are that way also... Thanks for that. {hug} I get overwhelmed out there on the big board, too much going on for my busy little mind. Take care, stay in touch.

Hi Dream, Nice to see you as well. Hope things are going well for you today. Thanks for the compliment, I love these boards and I learn so much from them. It feels great to get support and give support on the message boards. I belong to other message boards on line, while they are supportive (diet/lowcarb) they just really don't understand the world of morbid obesity. It is so different on OH.com, the love and support is soooo contagious . I've also found that it help me get through these nerver racking times of waiting for my NEW life to begin. I come over to the Kansas board from time to time. I mostly lurk when I do come over here and yes it does seem to be livening up, I'm pretty happy about that. I also hope to possilbly run into someone that have used the Liv-Lite program in JC, KS. I used to get overwhelmed on the main board also. So I mostly lurked for a little while after I joined OH. I understand the feelings of being overwhelmed over there, as things move fast over there, the state boards or more personable. Please keep me posted on your journey, I'd love to know how things are going for you. (((*~dream~*))) ~~~T C.~~~

Hi Candice, Mostly just would love to chat more with people from the Liv-Lite program. I live about 3.5 hrs from JC and I am a little nervous about not having suppourt closer to home. I feel that, that will be a very integral part of my process. At first I was apprehensive of using them because of the geographical distances. But I really like Dr. Bollman and his program. Patty reassured me that people travel distances all the time..which made me feel a little at ease. I was still a little nervous about possible complications and not being close to Dr. Bollman so that he could address what possible problem that I might have. So how are you feeling since surgery? How was your recovery? Any complications thus far? Do you go to the monthly support group meetings? Also is there any online support groups (ie yahoo or msn) available for JC's Liv-Lite program. You can e-mail me privately if you'd prefer not to talk about this on the boards. Thank you for posting to me. ~~~Triple C.~~~

I had a really positive experience with the program... Pam, Patty and both the docs are always happy and smiling. I had Dr. Narciso (easy on the eyes, I have to say) as the primary, although they do the operations in tandem and have had excellent results. When they give you your big book to read over, it also includes not only their office number, but their home numbers as well. I travelled about 45 minutes to them, which I know isn't far... but it meant leaving all 3 of my kids at home, which I missed terribly. But, when I'm in the hospital myself, I just want to get some rest and recover... so not having family around was actually a good thing for me. Liv-lite also has a chaplain in JC who has actually had the surgery, and will come and see you if you need someone to talk to about what you're going through. The Motel 6 there in town also gives a discount rate to families there to support you from out of town as well (although I'm not sure how much the discount is). I've recovered EXTREMELY well, having gone back to work just 15 days after the operation. I've called the office a few times with questions, and even if they're not there, they return your calls very fast. They're also EXCELLENT at getting insurance approval. My stay in the hospital seemed really long, and even though the nurses sometimes seemed a little short-staffed, they all were very attentive and quick to respond whenever I had a need... my bad times were at night, and many times the CNA's were around to listen to me rant or check things out. Right now, I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op, and down at least 26 pounds (not sure if my scale is 100% on with the doc's)... so I think this was the absolute best choice for me, I hope you take time to weigh all the pros and cons and see what is best for you!

The only Doctors I know that are in Topeka, are at Tallgrass Surgical. It is probably one of them. I am not sure about the costs, but they seem like a great group of people and I have heard stellar reports about their surgical skills and care. I have been to their office and it is very nice and clean also (just an fyi) The phone number is 785-232-0444. Ask for Rochelle, she is a sweetie. Good luck!
