lap band/coventry help!

Hi - my husband & I are just starting the process of attempting approval for lap band surgery. We have Coventry of Kansas Insurance and I have only read negative experiences about getting approved with them. Does any one have any suggestions or have been through this process with success? Also I would like recommendations for a reputable surgeon in the KC area for lap band. Thanks for your insight.

Hello, First of all good luck on the decision you and your husband have made. I wish we could be more helpful here but this board is sort of small and right now, several of us are post - op. You may want to look at the top of OH when you first sign on and click on insurances to check out yours. There is also a place to seek out surgeons and see patient reviews of them. Posting to the main board is also a way to get very good advice on procedures and such as the staff and members are very informed and willing to share that information There is a drop down which helps you step by step with the process up at the top of the main page when you first come onto the site. If you need more guidance or feel you need some help, you can write the staff, they are wonderful. If I can be helpful please let me know also. Hi Kim, I am two and a half weeks post op and very pleased with Dr. Wanda Kaniewski. She and her husband has their own small weight loss hospital in Lenexa, KS. I would give them a visit to see what they can do for you. They were most helpful for me with every question I have had up until this point. My surgery was May 22 and I was at the Dr. yesterday and I have lost 18 pounds since my beginning weight.

I too had surgery with Dr. K. except it wasn't lapband but I would also reccommend calling her office.

Hi Kim - first of all I wish you the absolute best of luck in getting your surgery. I had the lap band placed a little over seven months ago and I would do it again TOMORROW! I LOVE it! I will keep you in my thoughts! Second, my surgeon was Jesse Lopez, D.O. and I cannot say enough wonderful things about him. He is very professional and I have had absolutely no problems with my band whatsoever. I would recommend him highly. If you like, you can email me and I will give you his phone number. You could also call his nurse, Ginger, and ask her about what help they can provide to you with your insurance company.
