Topic: RE: Recipes for Protein Shakes
My favorite protein shake is a clone of Starbucks Chocolate-Banana Vivanno.
1 scoop Chocolate protein powder
1 scoop Click (espresso flavored protein powder)
8 oz fat free milk (I use Lactaid due to lactose intolerance)
1 tsp SF vanilla syrup (DaVinci)
1/2 banana
handful of ice
Whiz up in a blender. Delicious tasting mocha shake. It's about the only protein shake I can handle drinking.

Topic: Psychological Exam/St V's
I am persuing surgery through St Vincent's Bariatric Hospital. I have an appointment with Dr Stote this week and I'm kind of nervous as I've never had any kind of exam like this. What should I expect? Please help me calm down a little LOL

Hi Kris,
As they say, knowledge is power, so I understand the need for the questions. lol!
The barium "paste" was about a half full small fast food drink cup. You have to first swallow a pill cup's worth of "carbonation crystals' and immediately try to swallow the paste as soon as possible I suppose to help trap the air from the crystals because you have to fight the urge to burp. They expand your stomach and gets a better coating then.
Each surgeon is different, but I think generally so long as the gall bladder is basically healthy, they will leave it alone.
As far as the shots go, part of what is given us to take home is an education kit dvd to study over to get as comfortable as possible with giving yourself shots...the needle is very small and apparently goes in easily...a suggestion was given to ask the nurse while in hospital to tutor you in giving yourself a shot or two before leaving..
There is great leeway in the vitamins and proteins, so long as they cover all the daily requirements its then just a personal preference...they give you a notebook of everything they cover in class for reference later..
Personally I got the Flintstone Complete chewable vitamins, B-12 sublingual dots, calcium citrate with D caps, I already use an RTD protein drink EAS AdvantEdge (as a meal replacement ) so I thought that was cool it was already on the list.
We received a little lunch bag with a baby spoon. Now in class the nut also showed a sippy cup so I don't know if we get that when we leave post op.
Have you heard anything yet? I spent today dealing with email/calls/appts to get final exams fmla paperwork in order and trying to stress to them the URGENCY to get done ASAP!! We are getting to be old warriors of the red tape! lol!

This, I'd recommend to anyone who likes the flavor of coffee...
In a huge bowl, I mix:
2 lb Body Fortess Super Advanced Whey protein (52 g protein per serving,
chocolate)
One 13.8 oz can Swiss Miss No Sugar Added hot cocoa mix (I've used the Nestle
Quick sugar-free mix also)
12 oz decaf instant coffee
2 lb powder milk
40-50 packets of Sweet & Low (You may decide to add more later..this is just
kinda to start. I use it instead of Splenda because S&L takes less than splenda
would)
Mix all together and put in a container...I use a 4 lb protein bottle.
To prepare a batch:
Pour 1 quart of skim milk in a 1 gallon pitcher. Add 1 scoop at a time of the dry mixture above and mix well with a whisk. Add 6 heaping scoops total. I use the scoop that comes in the protein. Add 1/2 bottle of DaVinci (25.4 oz) sugar-free French Vanilla syrup or one of the small bottles of sf vanilla from Walmart. Add 1 more quart of skim milk and fill the rest of the way with water. Adjust according to taste. Sometimes, I add more instant coffee or more sweet & low. The Davinci comes in other flavors that are sugar-free too. You can get little bottles at Walmart but I'd recommend going to Amazon.com and ordering the large bottle....which is also a WAY cheaper way to go. Davinci also has flavors that is good on crushed ice for slushies. Wonderful way to get the water intake in.
Now..when it's mixed up, I put crushed ice in my bullet and cover it to
the top with the mix. Then I let it do it's thing and it ends up a very yummy
latte slushie. I haven't figured out the protein amount per serving but with the
protein, powder milk, and skim milk, I'd guess it to be ~40-45 grams. I usually
drink a couple of them a day.

Good for you for trying on your own. Surgery isn't for everyone. There's a website I like called myfitnesspal.com. It lets you keep a food journal and has an amazing amount of different foods programmed in. Check it out. I do like OH better for support.

There is a website sort of like this one that I also belong to...www.extrapounds.com It lets you blog, and has some pretty good people on it!
I am on the fence about surgery...still. I have tried medical weight loss and it didn't go well for me. I have been eating well and working out and so far I haven't lost any weight, despite feeling better overall. In fact, I'm gaining...everyone says it's muscle but I'm skeptical. It's depressing...
