This is only my experience, others will vary and probably vary a lot so take it for what it is worth.

It has been my experience that now when I am two years out my RnY is not much different than being banded, except now I have vitamin malabsorbtion to worry about.  My appitite is back now.  I struggle to keep each pound off, I have to work hard to maintain my weight loss and have even gained 5 pounds back.  I still have great restriction and am only able to eat about a cup of food at each setting but if I am not careful I can let myself have too many "settings".  I sometimes eat when I am not hungry (emotional eating), in spite of having wls.

Its all about learning a new lifestyle along with your choice of weight loss surgery, until we get determined to exercise and eat right and come to terms that we were only given a tool not a miracle nothing will change.  I have not learned to like exercise, I feel much better when I do but that doesn't make it easier.  I still love bread and sugar just like I did before surgery so limiting them takes a ton of discipline.  Some days I fail, I just can't be strong enough.

Give your surgery time to catch up with your head.  Practice all the skills we have been given and get your head into your weight loss.  Go see Dr Olsen and tell her you are struggling, she will give ya a nice kick in the pants (speaking from experience).  We have wonderful resources at our fingertips at St Francis.....use them.  We don't need Dr O when things are going well, we need her at times like this.

Although I can't say I feel your pain pesonally, I do however know your not alone. My banding buddy has had nothing but problems with her band. Even having to have it replaced with a vgband per doctors orders and still not loosing weight (like I did) & finding the right restriction with her new band. I have the utmost sympathy for those that the band just don't "work" for. To have such hope & aspiration & and the emotional toll from the "I told you so" sayers prior to your banding, it has to be depressing & oh so frustrating.

Have you talked to Dr Mandelbaum or his staff about how frustrated you are that this choice just isn't working for you?

I wish I had a solution for your frustration & pain... I really do.

Blessings

Me too. Can I bring all my girls and their kids?  The grands have been wanting to get to Holiday World this year anyway, and I have never been.  I would love to camp the night before, haven't done that in years either.

I am only one, But still, I am one.  I cannot do everything, but still I can do something.  And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do
the something that I can do.

Topic: Regretting the band
I am really starting to regret getting my band.  I have had more trouble with it than most RNY patients.  I can't get my band adjusted right, it either too tight or not tight enough.  I throw-up at least once a day on it, more port area is always sore from bumping into things with it.  And I think the most upsetting part is that I have only lost 30 pounds in six months.  I did not pay $17,000 for something to not work (ok insurance paid most of it).  I am very frustrated with this thing.  I thought I did my homework and really wanted this thing but now I just want it gone.  Anyone know my pain or how I feel?  Can I do anything about it?

How about we try for July 24th then.  It will give us more time to make plans.  I'm sure we can get the discount at St. Nick's Restaurant again for our breakfast buffet.  I'll check and see what dates work best with Larry.  If he has a big convention, he may not be able to accommodate us.  Let me see what he says.  As of right now, it's tentatively set for July 24.  I won't set the date until tomorrow morning though in case some more people need input.

Looking forward to this!  It's always a great time and I do love Holiday World.  Pat Koch has been a huge inspiration for me and has supported my surgery from the get-go.  She's an amazing woman!  The new ride, the Wildebeest, looks like so much fun too!!!!

For newbies, they have a lot of choices foodwise.  Grilled meats, salads and the restaurant in the Thanksgiving section with roasted turkey.  Yummo!

Of course they have free parking, sunscreen and unlimited soft drinks!

Hope we get a good crowd again this year.  I think we had 30 last year.

Kristie,

Special Olympics has a new program for Youths under the age of 8. You can call the State Office in Indy to find out who is running a youth program near your area. And of course you can always volunteer anytime anywhere. I'll be coaching swimming at ISU for summer games... so come look me up. I'd love to show you around the different areas... and we have an AWESOME opening ceremony that starts around 6-7pm Friday night. Summer Games are always in TH and always the first weekend in June.  So if anyone would like to come check it out.... come on down!!!!!

1.  What is your favorite thing about summer?

Swimming .... I love to be in the water, last year we didn't have too much nice weather for swimming so I am hoping for a better years.  OH, and Yard Sales.

2.  What is your favorite flowers to plant in your flower garden?

I live on a wooded lot so I only can have shade plants, impatients, hostas, and yukka's and thats about it.  If any of you have other suggestions I would love to hear from you on this matter.  If I had sun it would most definatly be Dahalias.

3.  What is something new you are doing this summer that you didn't/ couldn't do last summer?
I work on my feet all day.  I love my job and there is no way I could have done it 100+ lbs ago.
