Confused about Vitamins
I went to the GNC the other day and talked with the lady there about the B1 and B12. She had said there has been a lot of us coming in there and didn't understand why the doctors were telling us to use the Flinstones Vitamins instead of using this Womens multi vitamin in a powder. (which she wanted be to buy instead of using the others) I am guessing we need to take the Flinstones due to how small our stomach will be after surgery correct?
Bonnie
Bonnie,
The Flinstone's w/iron have all the nutrients we need, they are chewable, and the taste (while isn't terrific) is tollerable. They aren't the cheapest, but they aren't expensive either, not like alot of other vitamins can be). I had tried a powder...and in comparison, it taste awful, cost 4 times the amount, and didn't have all the nutrients I needed. I now use a generic children's chewable with iron.
The B12 has to be sublingual (under tongue). Our bodies doesn't break down pills the same way post-op so B12 pills will be flushed out of your system without breaking down.
While you are checking out vitamins, may I recommend you picking up some Biotin? It is for nail & hair growth. I know you have beautiful hair now but many post-ops experience ALOT of hair loss ~4 months post-op. Those who are on Biotin before that doesn't experience this in such a degree as those who don't.
I take it that the consult went well then? Are you at the point of getting your paperwork in to the insurance, or.....?
Sherri
Sherri,
Yes the consult went well and you know Dewayne and all his questions he has....lol of course that was with the one on one talking......lol. Right now I am waiting for my paperwork from the Dr's office then the wonderful wait from the insurance company. I had already talked with them prior to me even doing anything and they said it would be covered. But as I have read I can't necessarly go with what they say until I have letter in hand. Once I recieve the letter I will then start the calling to BSBC and bug (nicely...lol) to see how things are going. I will get started on the Biotin now cause I don't need to loose anymore hair than I am already. I did pick up the B1 and the B12 that disvolves under the tongue Hope things are going great at your home and hope to see you both soon.
Bonnie
Because the vitamins HAVE to be a part of our lives and I just couldnt see chewing flinstones I bought the GNC Liquid.. Cranberry based and it was decent... NOW I take CVS Multi.. they melt in water within 5 minutes.
My sister in law isnt even having surgery and started the Biotin and her hair is looking good!!!
Best of luck with everything!
