hospital

Now I know people mean well but sometimes the things they say can be so darn cruel. I was in the hospital over the weekend due to a little problem with my heart. My mom (who does not support my weight loss thru surg) said I thought the RNY would stop health related issues from happening. I quickly explained RNY would give me a new lease on life but would not undo the damage that too much weight had done on my heart. I hate it that people think this some miracle we have been given. Yes it is a miracle but it is also a tool that cannot be taken for granted. I am so thankful for my RNY and thankful that thru that RNY my heart attack was not worse that it could have been.

Just needing to vent....

Kristie, people do not understand and if they aren't being supportive to begin with, the comments definately start rolling if you have any kind of complications post op. I had some friends/co-workers who told me that I made the biggest mistake of my life having this surgery when I had to be off work for a month with a PICC line and TPN. I replied that if it was a mistake, it was mine to make and they had no room to make comments. But definately not a mistake in my book.

Sorry that your mom upset you, but you and I (and anyone else who has done it) know that it's not a miracle cure all, just a tool to help us improve our lives!

Kristie so sorry to hear about your troubles over the weekend.  You will be in my prayers.  Isn't it great to have the support here from friends who are going through or have been through the same thing.  People who haven't been through it just can't understand.  Your Mom was probably just reacting because she was afraid of losing you and didn't realize that comment would bother you.   Just let it roll off.
