Wish they would have these parties on weekends so that those who live so far away could come. It's at least a 2 hour drive, and getting home that late on a work night, just isn't possible. Also, wish they wouldn't cancel the support groups in all of Indiana since they have the party in Carnel. Those of us who can't make the drive really need our support group in December.
I love the Christmas parties but I can relate to all the responses so far. I drive 45 minutes to the party. One year it was snowing kinda bad. But I know that 45 minutes away the snow can be worse or even better where the party is held. If you are driving from 2 hours away, my advice would be, make sure the weather is good and please drive carefully. It really is a shame that its on a week-night. If it were a Friday night or Saturday, we could all party that much more, couldn't we????
Also, Its a shame that there are no meetings the whole month of December. IMHO, I think that December is a rough month for bariatric patients. Lots of holiday baking, tempting treats, and also just holiday stress that can lead to emotional eating and those are the times that we all need accountability and support from the people that understand what we are going through, especially for those of you in the early phases and years. So....what you need to do right now is make plans for how you are going to get through December without those meetings, ok??? Make a plan now!!!
Talk to your online friends and your support group friends and get phone numbers and call each other for accountability or whenever you all set up. Talk to family too on how they can best support you. Be mindful, don't be mindless in your eating. Think before you open your mouth. Get your support tools in place now so you aren't caught off guard.
The Christmas party- they will have food for everyone- no matter what phase you are in. All the doctors will be there and they love to see us. Cosmetic surgeons usually are there too. Not soliciting, just mingling with patients they've done work on. Its is strickly for post-ops, no pre-op's because of the large crowd, they had to draw the line. Not my rule. It is VERY motivational to be among so many that are all celebrating the greatest Christmas Gift that we could ever have been given!!!! (Next to Christ himself, of course)
You will never experience so many happy, smiling faces with so much positive energy in one place where every single person is feeling like "A MILLION BUCKS" whether they have lost 20# or 220#. We are all on the same journey, have the same goal, and we're all FAMILY.
