question for you rny'ers
quick question...
today is my 4 wk mark and i was wondering if it is common to be soooooooooo weak...
it just hit me this AM when i got up and i'm wondering if this could be that delayed "im exhausted" 3 wk mark that some ppl talk about or something else???
i just feel so weak and shaky and unsteady
or...am i just plain crazy!!!

Sounds like that is what could be going on with you but I'd hate to say for sure. I know that I was pretty weak for the first two months or so. It was at the three month mark before I really felt like I had the energy to do a full day at work and go home and exercise. Make sure that you're getting in as much of your nutrition as possible. Nutrition is so important. Hang in there.

yeah...ive felt pretty good that last couple of weeks and all of the sudden when i got up this AM..BAM!!! it hit me...
ive been drinking about 72-80 oz of water a day and doing my protein shakes.. 3 a day @ 25 grams of protein a day and getting in about 10-12 more grams of protein thru food.
but i have been walking everyday and running around with friends over the wkend...maybe its just hitting me that i need to rest for a bit....
ill try to up my water intake and see if that helps....
not really nauseated...just weak...
kinda like you get when your blood sugar or blood pressure gets too low, ya know???
think im gonna go lie down for a few and then try to do my walk later

Ive been away a while to come back and see you had your surgery..Im so happy for you. I am 5 months out .now and let me tell you for the first 3 1/2 months i was tired ... very. But now not so much. LOL YOUR NOT PLAIN CRAZY!! YOUR FUN, COOL, GOOD CRAZY.
Its good your doing the protein sveral times aday. Because I followed someones advice and drank all my protein at once and i thought i was getting it in and was not. So started loosing a little hair and my nails..and then had blood test,sure enough protein was low,so I have adjusted it,several times a day and also take Biotin... for hair..etc. I as thinking before I found out about protein it was B vitamins and was giving myself a shot once a month plus,the sublinguel B-12 under my tounge sometimes 3 or 4 times a day.. I had energy though. I DO NOT RECCOMMED ANYONE TO DO THIS! Dr. Gupta couldn't believe it. So,as with other tools,learn as ya go....

Pam, I've also noticed that there are days where I'm just not into it you know what I mean? My wife and I are training for this half marathon that we're going to do in Nov. and some days for no reason at all it's like I'm running on empty....literally. I kind of blame the change in weather for some of this. My internal thermostat is so messed up that I freeze almost all of the time. So often all I want to do is cover up to stay warm and sleep. At work I literally wear gloves, long underwear, and an insulated hooded sweat shirt because I'm so cold. My co-workers think that I'm crazy. They just don't understand. If I had it my way the thermostat would be set for no less than 75 degrees.....80 would be better. It's good that you're getting all of your water and protein in each day.

Pam you very well could be suffering from low blood sugar. I never did before surgery but have had problems with low blood sugar since my RNY. It doesn't take much to make it go away, since your so new out you will probably need a protein shake to make it go away, later on you can have an apple or OJ or something like that to fix it.
If you are working out or walking before you eat, you are very prone to have a spell with low blood sugar so make sure you have something before you exercise or walk.
I am getting pretty good at being able to recognize the symptoms early on and can control it with about six ounces of OJ.

I felt really wea****il I got rehydrated and started getting my protein/vitamins in. Your body is in shock. Hang in there.

It seems like most people go through this at about 3-4 weeks post-op. I know for myself, I felt fantastic for the first 3 weeks or so and then boom! All of a sudden I was totally lifeless for about 3 weeks. I was getting in all of my vitamins. I was getting in all of my protein. I was getting in all of my water, exercise, sleep...you name it. I really think it was just a period that my body had to take some time to catch up with all that had happened to it. If you continue to feel tired or if you are tired enough that it is concerning to you, then call your surgeon's nurse. If you are getting in all of your water & protein, there are other things to look at and consider.
With you being a newly post-op, if you have been getting your water & nutrients in, I would suspect ...in this order...(1) just your body healing, (2) need to switch to B12 injections instead of sublinguals (if you don't asorb enough of the B12, you can get very tired), (3) hypoglycemia (cut back on the mashed potatoes..or other simple carbs), (4) hypothyroid.
Give it a week or two and see if you don't start getting more energy as your body heals. If you don't feel any better, then give that nurse a call.
