Fair Food

Went to our county fair last night --there were good smells at the fair and then the greasy smells.  Saw our support group leader and various other friends who hadn't seen us since surgery.  Needless to say, a lot of comments and "I didn't recognize you; you guys look great".

Anyways, at our fair they had sugar-fee lemon shake-ups.  Now, this has always been a favorite of mine prior to surgery.  They make the sugar free with water, lemons and your choice of sweetner.  My husband and I split a large one.  It was good, but a little expensive @ 6.00 for jus****er and lemons --but a healthy option.  So, if you are headed out to your local fair or the State Fair check out this healthier option.

Just two kinds of smells?  Huh, I guess you were holding your breath when we were walking through the Livestock Barns..... and the Midway.  I noticed nasty smells coming from animals and people!

Well yes, I also smelled animals and people for sure --but I was trying to be PC and not subject these people to our observations!!

To funny !!!!  Cool choice on the lemon shake up and they are very proud of their food and drinks at the various venues !  Angie and I went to the Nationwide Series race at ORP last Saturday night and she got a large lemon shake up for $6 (must be the going price) and a turkey leg for $7, granted it was huge but ...............  Good race though got to see Carl Edwards do one of his back flips right in front of us and he beat Kyle Busch  .

You two take care and have a great upcoming weekend !!!!

I remember the days of fair food! That was my "good-bye", really. I was scheduled for surgery in November, and in October I went to the Covered Bridge Festival in Bridgeton. I ate some of this and some of that, and anything I wanted basically. It was my last hurrah!

I was so excited to find sugar free lemon shake ups at my county fair too! It made the trip there all worth it, despite I didn't eat any of my favorite fair foods!

Alisica and I split a rosted ear of corn.  Well, actually she had two bites and I had the rest but it was delicious!!!!  I'm glad that the Fair is only once per year because those lemon shake-ups at $6.00 each would send us into bankruptcy if we bought them all of the time.

Have you noticed how rediculous some of the fair foods are getting now? I thought the battered & fried candy bars would bad but....Bill heard on tv that this years 'new' foods are fried green beans (hmm..how can we take something healthy and make it obesity friendly?) and.... chocolate covered BACON! Who thinks up this stuff??? I really laughed over the bacon. I told Bill that there was going to be a post-op somewhere that is going to get turkey bacon, fry it, and paper-towel off the grease and then dip it in melted sugar-free chocolate just so they can feel like they didn't 'miss' anything! LOL!

When I was ~a year post-op, I had found a grilled chicken breast salad at the fair. There's also usually roasted chicken somewhere...just remove the skin. And besides the shake-ups, you can get bottle water at just about every food stand. There are definately alot of dietary options so we don't have to miss out on all the other things the fairs offer. Now though, I REALLY have a taste for roasted corn on the cob! Thanks guys...at 8 am and with a dentist appt in a few hours! LOL!
