Well  today is my pre op testing and I am kind of nervous.  It is almost like this is all out of body, is that weird?  I mean I am not scared to death and that isn't like me I usually have such anxiety about doctors and dieing but for some reason I have been so calm and collected.  What does that mean?  My daughter is scared to death that I am going to die and I keep telling her that it is just as likely I will die this over weight than with the surgery.  You can't pick when and where when it is your time it is your time.  The mortality rate I think is 1 to half a percent, isn't that right.  Does anyone know the percentage rate for how many serious complications after surgery?  Well I better go, sorry I rambled a little I have a lot of stuff going thru my mind....

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...  It's about learning to dance in the rain!

Mortality and complication rates can vary between surgeons. To get data important to you, you should ask your particular surgeon.

I was lucky that my children didn't ask about the possibility of my not making it. I think you're right to reassure your daughter that you're doing the best you can to take care of yourself to live a long HAPPY life with her.

Once I decided that I was going to have weight loss surgery I never looked back.  I was not nervous at all, I was actually at peace with my decision.  Maybe you are at peace with your decision and know you are doing what is best for yourself.

I think its natural that our families would be nervous.  Especially if they don't understand the issues we have with our weight.  My husband is and always has been of average weight so he did/does not understand.  He was not for me having surgery at first but when he discovered how educated I had made myself about the surgery he was much more relaxed about it.  Assure your daughter that while there are risks to any surgery you are educated, prepared and well cared for by your surgeon.
