Trying to learn
I'm going for a consultation on 7-31 with Dr Diaz (St Vincent) and the Psych eval on that same day. I really want to get this ball rolling, I went to a consultation (different dr, etc) a couple years ago but got talked out of pursuing the surgery. Now I feel it's either this or die.
But I am still trying to figure out about the RNY & DS surgeries...I'm also worked up about the insurance approval. I think I've had most of the pre-op tests within the last few months, my BMI is around 50 and I just got diagnosed with diabetes.
I will see my GP on the 28th and try to get my records sent to Dr Diaz. Is there anything else I can do "grease the wheels"?
Sorry for the long post but this forum seems to have people with alot of experience.
Thanks and bless you all

I'm having my RNY with Dr Diaz August 17! I called my insurance company to find out what their requirements were before I went in. Luckily for me with my insurance my weight was the only requirement since my BMI is over 50. When the insurance lady at St V told me she sent my approval packet, I called the insurance company to make sure they got it and I also called to make sure they had sent the approval letter. I was very lucky that my insurance approved my request they same day she sent it. I'm glad everything went so quickly because I suck at being patient! lol Just stay on the insurance people. I'm sure everything will work out great for you!
You need to see what your insurance will cover, for one thing. My insurance wouldn't cover all the variations of wls.
You need to consider your weaknesses too. I'm not utterly familiar with DS restrictions, but I guess as I understand it, you can eat more meats, have more to eat at a time, but you absorb much less. I wonder if you have to take more supplements then too? Something to consider. You may be willing to take them, but are you able to purchase them? They get pricey after a while.
I chose RNY because my downfall is easily sweets. It's like built in behavior modification for me. I don't feel good if I eat the sweets. It helps.
