Clarian requires a total of 3 supervised weight loss visits and Dr. Mattar in particular requires a weight loss usually around 20-25 pounds, then you also have preop testing to go through before you get scheduled for surgery.  As of right now he is pretty booked up through August for surgery.  If you have met all of his requirements then my guess is you would get scheduled for Sept. sometime.  I had my first consult with him Dec. 15th and had surgery April 16th, so it was 4 months for me from start to finish.  Hope that helps!

How long was the wait at St. V?

Jim,

Welcome to the board.

The wait for each surgeon varies...and varies with the time of year. Usually at the beginning of the year is when there is the least amount of waiting time because no one has used up their insurance deductibles yet. As the year goes on, the waiting list gets longer. I would guess that at this time of the year, the typical wait would be 1-2 months from consult to surgery. Again, that will vary depending on the surgeon.

Good luck with your journey.

I have been with Mattar since February, however I have not met my weight loss goal.  I was told that once I have met goal, it would likely be six weeks until surgery.  I am struggling meeting my goal.  I see the nut today..

Good Luck Jim!
I am a St V's patient too and they did not require a weight loss prior to my surgery. I had been on a program with a local bariatric doctor prior to checking out WLS but that had been a year prior to going to St V's for my first consultation.
There is one thing that I don't understand with the requirement of losing a percentage of weight prior to WLS. If I am struggling to lose weight and I have done everything else and am going to have WLS then how can I lose 20-25 lbs before surgery? I mean, it's like I am going to have someone do major surgery and cut on me to help me with the tools necessary to FINALLY lose my weight because I can't. So how would a doctor expect me to be successful in losing such a chunk of weight before hand? I know I was out of control with eating prior to my WLS. I had trouble doing liquids the day before the procedure, let alone having to lose that much before.
I guess I want to say to the docs, if I could lose the weight on my own then I wouldn't be having WLS. derrrrrrr  (sorry, I had to just express my opinion).

Welcome to the IN board Jim. I'm routing for you!!
Be Well  : )

I am hoping to get in by September because my work is going to give me the time off if not I have to wait until next year.
