Ready To Give Up
Stacy, Stacy, STACY - DO NOT QUIT!!!
We can help you through this - let me tell you some of my secrets - I lost 52 lbs BEFORE surgery and it was relatively pain free.
1. I started attending support group during the weight loss phase - right after my psyche eval. If you aren't going to one - find one. You need support now from more than just the board. To have a face, warm body to talk to is very important.
2. Are you excercising? If you are then you're building muscle and you won't "loose" weight per se. I walked after every meal even while I'm at work. I walk around the hallway after I eat breakfast - walk longer at lunch because I have an hour.
3. Drink something hot like tea, SF hot choc about 1/2 to an hour before dinner. If will help. I'm not sure why... but it worked.
4. Switch to a smaller plate than you normally eat on. THIS is VERY important. When you measure/weigh your food and put it on a 6 or 8 inch plate verses a 12 inch plate. Your plate LOOKS full and you'll feel full.
5. MOST important - take a minute for you to breathe, meditate, just BE.
You can do this honey! I've done it - others have done it! WE want you to join us on the loosers bench!!
Funny - I NEVER log into the "OH" board in the afternoon but something drew me here this afternoon. I was just going to drop you a I see now I was meant to do more for you!

52 lbs lost before surgery!!
Your support means so much to me.
I have yet to find a support group. I heard there is one that meets in Lafayette, but have never been able to get any reliable information about it. The only thing I do know is that it is a St V's group and I have heard that the program is so different that it won't benefit me.
I am just feeling really negative today, and am not sure how to pull myself out.

Also, I would love to go to the Clarian meetings, but the drive is hard, and since hubby is laid off right now, I can't really justify the expense of driving all the way to Indy all the time right now.

Let me tell you, it can still be a struggle after WLS to lose the weight.
We all have gone through periods where we feel like throwing in the towel. Don't. Support groups are a good place for you right now. Have you checked with the hospitals in your city to see if they offer Bariatric Support Groups?
I know the support group I've attended, although it is a St. V's group, talked about issues that are common to ALL WLS patients - it's not about studying St. V's yellow sheets. We talked about hunger - head hunger, emotional eating, how to get in all tha****er, how to deal with body image, and so on.
If the only groups close to you are St. V groups and gas money is an issue, go!! I know at my support group you would be welcome. If you have any doubt, I'm sure the sponsors of the group could put you in touch with the leader who would set your mind at ease.
One other thing - if you are not taking in enough protein or water, your weight loss will stall. Your body thinks you are starving, and will do its best to hang onto what you have to nouri****self. Shake it up a bit. I know when I did weigh****chers, we talked a lot about that - they even had a name for that eating plan - the Wendie Plan I believe. It centered around having a day where you ate at the max caloric level for your particular plan, followed by a couple of days at a lower rate - the idea here is to change it up so your metabolism doesn't become complacent. It doesn't know what to expect, so it is not trying to conserve energy.
Come here often for your hugs!!

I did find that on a st vincent website but like I said it is a support group and I really dont think it matters where you are having surgery at. So why not give that group a try.
