Ready To Give Up
I am ready to quit. I am starting to believe that I was not meant to lose this weight and I am doomed to be miserable for the rest of my life.
I have no insurance issues, and Dr Mattar told me that once I lost the required percentage of my weight (which he asked me to lose 27lbs) that I would be scheduled quickly. He anticipated that I would have surgery by June, and now it is going on August, and I am not even close to my weight loss goal to get scheduled.
I am so ready to just quit. I am depriving myself, putting my family out financially and working my butt off to only feel worse, and not lose any weight.
Every time I show the dietician my food journal all I hear is "you're doing great" and "keep it up", but obviously the scale isn't moving so I'm not doing great.....
I am tired, and even though I am not an emotional eater, this experience could turn me into one....I need help....

Stacy,
You put that the nuts are ok with what you are eating. I take it that you are exercising too. Are you drinking plenty of WATER. Not diet pop..bu****er? Many people go by the old addage of 64 oz but I had heard you should drink at least half of your body weight. So...if you're 200 lbs, that would be 100 oz..minimum. Some people do ok on crystal light but for others? It takes good old fashion water.
My daughter has been doing these things and substituting non-fat versions as much as possible (like cottage cheese & milk), drinking protein drinks, cooking with canola or olive oil and she has lost over 40 lb since April.
keep your eye on the goal! And weight loss does not have to be expensive...just alot of common sence.

Stacey,
Okay..lets look at what you are doing. No Pop, not even diet. a minimum of 100 oz. of water a day. I drink mine out of Ice Mountain sport top bottle ( just keep refilling) I use water packets from crystal light, hawaiian punch, wylers generic brand whatever. You shouldn't have to spend any money losing weight. i lost 63 pounds preop. I ate only Protein and veggies. (pretty much the Liver reduction diet before they had it) If you want you can email me/text me or pm me......
[email protected]. I can help.
I have helped my coworkers lose alot of weight, too. You can do it...lets look at it together.

Stacy, DON'T GIVE UP!! Think of that 27 lbs as a stepping stone to better things. From someone who started at 309 and is now 198... girl, you can do it. You have to think about your goal and focus on what you eat. I am going to use TOUGH LOVE here, how do you expect to be successful after WLS if you can't get that 27 lbs off before?? WLS is something that we look at as being the cure. Sure we tell people that we know it is not an easy way out but, we are looking for the answer and something to help because we can't seem to help ourselves lose. No peicing as you cook because little bites add up and stop eating the minute you feel full. That always helps me and now after WLS it is so much easier to be able to do that. Stress will sabatoge you and keep you from your goal. Stay in touch with all of us here and focus. This forum will inspire you and support you. It sounds like you are set for the WLS. You are luckier than a lot of people whose insurance will not cover this. It can happen and I know that because I have to stay focused or I will gain back a lb or two. All you need to do is lose that 27 lbs and you are on your way!! That is your first hurdle. The water is really the key. It will help you shed water weight you are retaining and protein, protein, protein. Drink a protein drink in the morning and that will help your carb cravings during the day. I know that I am a carb addict. Also, at night when you feel hungry after dinner drink another one. Again, that is what I had to do because I used to not eat breakfast and then would crave carbs all day and again at night before going to bed, I would eat something fattening. If I starved myself before bed, I would wake up famished in the morning. It is a bad cycle and sets you up for failure. Also, it doesn't have to be that expensive. If you can't afford all the protien powders then drink lowfat milk with powdered milk and some kind of flavoring. 4 cups of lowfat milk with 1/2 cup of powder milk is the amount of protien you should consume in a day. Of course its good to get the protien from what you eat but, with you just starting out this will help you lose faster as well as cure the carb monster.
Don't give up. Don't quite damnit. What will happen if you give up? It's not easier, you will feel worse and your health and life will only get worse. Stick with it and you will make it. Start walking also, make yourself!!

Johnna-
Water and breakfast are two of the things I am working the hardest at. I struggle with getting enough water, and I know that is a downfall.
I feel like I am getting lots of protein, and when I have the muchies, I am eeither doing a high protein snack or eating approved veggies.
I will look into doing the milk trick you mentioned....

Linda-
In theory that sounds great. however I love Dr Mattar, and I have already committed 5 months od classes and my psych visit that I don't really want to start that process over. Plus I have looked into the St V's and wasn't happy with what I encountered.
It does help for me to go to Clarian as well, because all of my Drs in Lafayette are Clarian Drs so that means my charts are available to all of them online.

Stacey,
Please stick w/ Clarian...Dr. Mattar is the best there is! He knows what he is talking about. You have to take a look. Maybe not enogh calories? If I eat too little calories I do not lose. On my preop diet I was never hungry. I ate what I wanted. But as long as it was protein. ( again if you are not getting enogh water it, that is the key...no questions about it.)

Hang in there, make sure you are following the liver reduction diet to a "T" and it will come off. I did that diet per Dr. Mattar and lost 37 pounds preop and now that I am post op I can see where they LRD is invaluable. I don't deal with alot of the head hunger issues I notice other post ops deal with because I had to deal with them when I was still a preop. If you go to the Clarian bariatric blog you can find lots of recipes for the LRD that the staff has put together. It is hard, but keep your surgery goal in mind!
