Me again-My first trip to the grocery
So I actually got out of the house for the first time yesterday (other than walking aroung the block). I went to the grocery. I think I did pretty well. I got some of that Fege yogurt, and I think its really good. I also bought some fat free refried beans and have them in the freezer now (thanks for that FANTASTIC idea!).
Here is my problem. I dont know what I was thinking, but I bought regular shredded cheese, and 4% cottage cheese. Neither are low fat. I think when I went into the store my eyes glazed over and I lost my brain.
Do you think I should just throw them out (or give them away..)?

St. Vincents told my nut class that everything does not have to be low fat, actually they told my group when we went through that we should eat somethings with fat, so I don't really think you would need to throw it out or give it away, just eat a little bit and make sure you can tolerate it.
I always buy regular cottage cheese, I do try to get low fat cheese but then I drink 2% milk. Your body will tell you if it does not like it.

If I buy the wrong thing, I return it or exchange. They have never given me any problems with that. Take your receipt with you.
Glad you survived your first trip to the grocery. It can be very tempting but you can do this. Being strong in the early stages is very important and ANY little step you make to improve your health will become your new habits tomorrow.

I freeze cottage cheese and cheese all the time now. I blend my cottage cheese in the blender with a little bit of milk to help cream it. It is moc sour cream to me. You can even put a bit of powdered milk in fat free or low fat cottage cheese to help it with more of a full flavor. I blend FF Hidden Valley Ranch dip mix in with my cottage cheese and it is our veggie dip. My daughter won't even eat sour cream because she was raised on the cottage cheese mixture. What I used to do when I was a new post-op was blend fat free cottage cheese with powder milk and put it over hot refried beans. OMG it was ambrosia!! But, of course I had to freeze most of it since I could only eat tiny bites. I still use my mix to put on anything in place of sourcream.
