Cholesterol...GRRRR

So, I got some blood work back from my Family Doc yesterday.  He found that my cholesterol has DOUBLED since RNY!  Yep, DOUBLED.  I did NOT have high cholesterol before surgery.  They had me on  cholesterol med b/c of diabetes to prevent high cholesterol (obviously, at some point it might have gotten HIGH and I didn't know b/c of meds.)  They took me off my cholesterol meds when they sent me home.  Now, I have to go back on them.  My cholesterol is 142.  They want it at 70 which is what mine WAS when I had my pre-op work.

I am a bit frustrated.  I know I am fortunate to have had the surgery.  I KNOW I have lost a lot of weight.  But I don't feel restriction at all.  I still have to watch my blood sugar. Now, my cholesterol is bad.  It just chaps my ass.

You're total cholesterol level was 142? That's a good number. Or are you referring to the LDL? I'm sorry to hear this. Can they explain why it doubled?

Dittos on the question.... is that your total cholesterol??? 142 is not high, in that case.

I'm sorry your medical issues are not all resolved. I hope you can keep your issues under control.

Ok, that sucks. Maybe your NUT or doctor can figure that out.  I wonder if it goes up for a little while after surgery, but then will eventually head back down?

Oh, and I love the "chaps my ass" line.  It made me laugh.

Oh, no, not total....the bad one LDL...yeah it is 142 and last year at surgery time it was only 70.  Sorry should have been more clear. She told me what my total was but I don't remember.

Oh, I'll live....it just makes me a bit pissy.  While I am happy with my results....in my house we have started a funny saying....you know how they always say "should have had a V8."  Well, now I tease and say "should have had a DS."  Although, I honestly don't think it is from my food.  But who knows....they said it could just be heredity.  But my parents neither had/have high cholesterol.  Just one more pill, right?

Does losing weight cause your cholesterol number to go up? I'm wondering since it's fat-soluble..just a thought.  Hope the drugs pop it back down.
