Wii or Gym?

I really like the Monon Center here in Carmel ( a gym, etc of sorts) and thought about joining there. Its reasonably priced and when I went there before it was a good experience.  My only problem is I work 10 hour days and have 2 dogs that I need to take care of.

So, I thought about getting a Wii and Wii fit.  The benefits are I could do it at home but wonder if I would get as good a workout, and really, it seems like im some sort of hermit - not leaving the house even to work out!!

So, opinions? Thanks everyone!

I've heard wonderful things about the Wii. Bill got me one 2 years ago but I had so many health problems that it has just sat on the shelf this whole time. We have the Wii fit too. Now that my tummy is all fixed up, hopefully, I'll be able to start playing with it some.

I think the Wii, walking, gym, etc...any are good if you will do them. Make it fun, and you'll be more inclined to do it more often. Remember though not to do much of any of them other than walking until you get a clearence from your surgeon to do so.

We got a Wii in April, and the Wii Fit in May...and I haven't stepped on the Fit since the night I set up my profile.  My husband has used it a few times, and he likes being able to do it any time he has a free 15-20 minutes.

For me personally, I wouldn't give up my Y membership unless we were in truly DIRE financial straits.  I need the personal contact and accountability of seeing people on a regular basis.  I joined the Y here about 3 weeks before my surgery last year, doing water aerobics, and then started with different classes and working out on the treadmills, elliptical, and now doing weight lifting.  It is amazing, and I know I've been so successful in toning and weight loss because my committment to working out is so strong.  Even though I'm a SAHM, I get up most mornings at 5am to get to the Y and be back home before my husband has to leave for work.

So that's my two cents....I've never had much luck with doing stuff 'at home' whether it be workout DVDs or the Fit...I could always find an excuse to not do it.  Knowing that people will be looking for me at the Y gives me the extra nudge I need to get out of bed.  My best friend just joined, and we LOVE our 5am workouts by ourselves...great time to be just us, without our kids!

Good luck with everything!!

I think it depends on your habits.  I bought a treadmill before surgery and I HATE using it. I will go to the gym and get on their treadmill.    Part of that is that I don't have a TV in front of my treadmill.  However, I find that if I am going out to the gym I am more dedicated.  If I am going to do something here at home I just put it off.  But I want to get the gym over with so I go.

I don't like to exercise.  I never have and I don't think I ever will...but I do it.

Edited to ask question:  I thought SAHM meant single at-home mom????  But then there was talk of a husband?  I am just trying to get all the online initials down....so I wanted to know what SAHM was?

Edited again to say: Single at home mom doesn't make sense now that I am reading it...so just what does SAHM mean?

SAHM = stay at home mom, basically moms who don't work outside of the home.  I do have a part time job as a church secretary one day a week, but the girls go with me, and I'm a consultant with Initials Inc doing purse parties.  Not to mention, 'stay at home mom' is a total oxymoron, because I'm almost NEVER home!!!

My Wii Fit lectures me every time I step on it cause I'm "losing too quickly".
I have an hour between classes on Tuesday, so I spend 20-30 mins walking and the rest of the time TRYING to eat some yogurt.
Then I use my Wii Fit a couple times a week to do balance exercises, since I'm not released for anything aerobic yet.

Okay, so I'm a bit slow.  Thanks for clearing that up!
