I know the nuts advise not to do it! However the only thing I truly miss is caf. free d.c. I am thinking of treating myself to a small sip or two once a week. Any thoughts? Any bad experiences? I sure don't want to stretch my pouch, but would love a little treat. Wendy

Wendy, just be prepared for the consequences... meaning The fizz that makes your pouch hurt and how miserable you may feel after doing so.  I won't lie, I drink it from time to time but its got to be flat and then only a couple ounces.  Their advise is right on.  And we really shouldn't drink pop but in the realm of things... it happens.

Be careful though!!!  It can cause alot of pain and suffering.  And it is actually dangerous if you havent been out of surgery very long. I have heard it can put enough pressure on your pou*****ision to make it leak or burst.... Is it really worth it?

Huge hugs,
Tracy

Wendy, I began drinking Diet Coke again after about 4 months.  Small sips!  I have better luck if I pour it over ice, or get a fountain pop.  It lets the carbonation dissipate a little.  Drinking it right out of the can sometimes makes me uncomfortable.

From what I've read, once you're fully healed, it can't stretch your pouch.  It's just that the carbonation may make you uncomfortable, may give you more gas, and caffeine will dehydrate you.  Add extra water.

I drink it a lot.  My dietician just warned me about the dehydration from the carbonation and the fact that it depletes your body of calcium.  It does not stretch your pouch.

When I recently asked for the guidelines from St. V., it said non-caffienated diet sodas were acceptable after six months out, I believe. I drink diet soda all the time. I think it would be better to stay off it if you can. I think the water is healthier.

I've drank some diet soda.  IT is harder to drink out of a bottle or a can....put it in a glass.  I have found I don't really care for it now.  Even after I drink it I am thirsty (i.e. dehydration).  So, I avoid it.  Sometimes I find myself where I have no water available and I will take a sip of my husbands but it's not satisfying for me.

Stay away from it.  I did so well for over 2 years and then i decided I could just have one every now and then. LOL  I drink at least 2 24oz a day and am really addicted to it. made a New Year's Resolution to get off of it again. Lasted a month, will try again later.   Take sound advice stay with water and juice.

Have a happy and safe 4th
