Protein Help Please

I will be three weeks post op this Thursday and have not been able to get my protein in. I go to the dr tomorrow and will discuss it with him. I have thrown up the milk/powdered milk shake so I tried the soy milk and couldnt keep it down either. I am at a loss on what to do. I am so scared of not getting everything I need in and having other health issues. Did any of you feel overwhelmed this soon as well?

Few of us could get our protein in at first.  Follow Dr's orders and do your best.  It will happen.  Try non-milk (even soy milk) based proteins and see if that helps.  Start with broth, sometimes a warm something is more soothing and easier to keep down.
I had my best luck with ISOPURE ready-to-drink from GNC.  I served it over crushed ice, like a slush.

In addition to Annette's good suggestions, you might buy a bottle of Isopure at the store.  Perhaps you might be able to keep it down - they have lots of different flavors.

We all struggled with that - you aren't alone.  It took me nearly 6 months to find a protein drink I liked and could tolerate!

ETA:  I see Annette already mentioned Isopure!  Great minds think alike...

I really liked the orange and the grape flavors - just like Dairy Queen.

My ice crusher was my best investment and I owe a great deal of my weight loss success to it.

If you are using a protein powder, try mixing it with water instead of milk, this may help.

GNC has some flavored bullets you mix with water and can drink them down for lots of protien.. I also ate cheese sticks and refired beans...

Try is the keyword.. it eventually gets easier to do.. make sure you get your liquids in even if it is water!!!

Ooh Linda Kay!  How could I forget the bullets?  I used them for quite awhile.  I got the grape ones and mixed them with diet Cran-Grape juice.  Poured over ice it was yummy.

Kristie, as everyone has said, we have all struggled with this. Lucky for me, I'm able to eat a large portion of my protein these days or I'd still be struggling. I found the only protein I could tolerate (taste wise) was the Nectar. It's a fruity drink and didn't taste chalky to me like the milk protein prowders did. I'd be happy to send you some if you'd like. I have fuzzy navel or lemonade.

PM me with your contact info if you want to try it. Hang in there, it will get easier!

Don't beat yourself up over it just yet.  Early out I dont really know of anyone who get in all their protein.  Just keep pushing to get closer to it and to find something you can tolerate.  It's only been in the past few months that I was able to tolerate the protein shakes.

Early out I used the protein bullets from GNC and mixed half a tube with juicy juice grape juice.  It made it so you couldnt taste it and it was not hard to tolerate.  It is fairly concentrated too which helps with your small pouch size.

I recently tried Achiev1 an loved their drinks.  And Proto Whey protein powder has no after taste of protein to it at all.

Good luck and just keep trying different types.

Huge hugs,
Tracy
