It's my party and I'll cry if I want to

Ok, so in 8 minutes it will officially be my birthday. I have mixed emotions this year. It is my first birthday after my rebirth. I'm happier than I've been in a while, but yet a bit sad. My 9 year old said to me today, "Mom, what kind of cake are we going to have for your birthday?" I hadn't thought about it up to that point, but no birthday cake for me this year or any other year. While not eating sweet things hasn't bothered me since my surgery, the thought of  never again eating cake on my birthday did make me a bit sad. Please no lectures about my feelings, I don't want sweet things, I don't indulge in sweet things, and I'd never eat cake just cause it's my birthday, but feel as though it's ok for me to be a little sad at the loss of that enjoyment. Never mind the fact that my 9 year old was really bummed out that he wouldn't be eating my birthday cake! ;o)

Happy Birthday Melissa!!! We just had the girls 5th birthday party. I do hope yours is as exciting and as filled with love and happiness that they had!!

Your feelings sound normal to me.  However, I don't think you should feel like you can never have a birthday cake again...you just need to find an alternative to the typical birthday cake.  What about sugar free angel food cake with strawberries on top?  I'm not very creative, so hopefully someone will have a better suggestion or more ideas than I have.

I find S/F angel food at my local walmart store.  They are awesome with some strawberries/S/f strawberry gel.

When i had my bday i wanted a cake so bad but instead i had strawberries with ssugar free whipped cream.
I loved bday cake and couldnt wait to go to parties just to have a reason to eat it.lol
Krogers did have sugar free angel food cake i dont know if they still do or not...
But you have come to far to let that peice of cake get you hang  in there...

Melissa are you familiar with eggfaces site?  She has a recipe for a sugar free cake that you make in the microwave in under five minutes.  I have tried it, its not bad.  If you are not familiar with her page, just do a search on "eggface" here on the OH search feature.
