Hi all,

I am so frustrated.. i've been on TPN for the last month due to an Ulcer that's making it difficult to eat ... i just had a repeat endoscopy done yesterday and my doctor told me that it isn't getting better. She said that if it's not better in 3 weeks she will have go in sugically remove it...:( my questiion has anyone had this done? my rny was on 030209 and nothing has gone smoothly since so i am not real excited about another surgery... oh yea the best part is  I am now NPO except for ice chips between now and the next endoscopy on july 9th... any assistance on this would be greatly appriciated....thanks Holly

Wow did I see that right? The Dr expects you to get absolutely NO Nutrition between now and July 9th except ice chips... something sure doesnt sound right.  Seems like you should be getting at least IV's for nutrition.. Over 2 weeks without eatting ANYTHING... I think I would ask again...

I don't know for sure, but I think the TPN she mentioned is IV nutrition.

I had emergency surgery for a perforated ulcer last summer. I felt much better afterwards. If you have to have another surgery, things might be better for you afterwards? I hope so.

Sorry you're having such a rough road with this.  I had a friend with ulcer problems and they can really wreck havoc on your ability to eat and drink.  They don't heal fast unfortunately.  She was on TPN and I had the same questions.  Is she getting nutrition from this?  Your's is a feeding tube right?  She didn't need to eat anything at all because she was getting all her nutrition from the feeding tube.  She couldn't eat much even if she wanted too. But it wasn't necessary for her to consume any food and it gave the ulcer time to heal.  it takes lots of patience which is hard, I know.  Please don't give up.
