Still at St. V's.....

Well...day 6. Dr. Cacucci came in & checked me. My intestines are still being extremely quiet but she added clear liquids to the ice chips & popcycles in hopes that it will encourage some movement. I'm trying to reduce the amount of narc pain meds as much as I can physically handle since they help to keep the insides quiet. Who'd ever thought that I would be hoping for a fart or bowel movement, huh? The Infectious Diseases doctors have been coming by every day too so they can be sure that no infection is going to happen this time. Dr. Bergman has been in every day but hasnt made it in yet today. It's Sunday, she should take the day off to be with her family.

Gail is still here too. She had another hernia and they took care of it on Friday. She thought she'd get release today but had alot of nausea so she's here for at least one more day.

Gail is in room 218 and I'm in 312. My doctor gave me the thumbs up to go visit her but her doctor hasn't approved her going anywhere off her wing.

Scott has been staying with Gail alot of the time. He comes up and checks to see how I'm doing too. And here he just had foot surgery himself last Tuesday. What a trio we are right now!

I heard from Tracy that our visitors to Chi-town are on their way home. I wish them all a safe journey.

Sherri,

Are you having to stay till you have bowel activity? If so, can you drink/have warm tea. That might release some activity. Just a thought.

I pray that you and Gail make it home safely and very soon. Tell Scott he has my sympathies in the foot surgery/pain department. My RSD has caused me to have 20+ surgeries on both my feet in just two years time.

Take care my friends!

Blessings & Prayers

Monday: Day 7 post-op (and at St V's still):

Shoot! I was gonna copy/paste an update and the darn thing won't let me. So...I'm gonna make this short & sweet.

Yesterday, they started me on a clear liquid diet (broth, sf jello, juice, hot tea for meals...water/tea/popcycles any other time). Very faint intestinal activity heard with a stethascope. None heard by ear or felt. I will probably stay on that until I can get rid of some of this gas. After that, it'll be soft foods till I have a BM. Then they'll add solids...and wait a few days to be sure that doesn't cause an emergency situation. Trust me, our nerves are on edge waiting to see how my intestines do. Coma's aren't for wimps...and after the last time, it's well..down-right scarey. I treasure the moments I can get my mind off of it. Kathy..thank you so much. I needed that good giggle today. I hope all goes well with your car tomorrow.

Now, for the good things...My drain tube was pulled today, I got to take a shower, and I was able to go down to the Serinity Garden and enjoy some fresh air. All of these things make one really enjoy and appreciate life. I also appreciate the calls, cards, and visits. I think you guys are the best group of people around.

hugs,
Sherri
