Hi Jeanna. I had to have my gallbladder removed in 2000, due to Pancreatitis. I'm not sure if that's what they're calling gallbladder disease, but I too had chest pains from it.  I had horrid pains that would start in my chest and radiate through to my back and would get so bad that I would just throw up from it. The pain was caused by gall stones getting lodged in my pancreas. I had been having problems with it since I was 17, but dr's kept telling me I had an ulcer. When I was 21 (and 7 months pregnant) they finally tested my pancreatic enzymes. They were through the roof. Had I not had my gallremoved at that time, my daughter and I would not be here.

The only real side effect I have is slight tummy problems when I eat greasy food or large amounts of red meat. As you are already post op, I doubt this will really cause you problems, as you are not likely eating enough fat to make a difference.

is it a painful surgery?

It's highly subjective, I think. For me, I had an open surgery, as I was 7 months pregnant. I have a 7 inch scar that runs diagonally across the right side of my abdomen.  I also had a Demerol push for pain. As I was pregnant, I didn't get much of it. I was, however up and walking about 3 hours after my surgery. (the nurses forgot to plug my bed back in, and I had to get myself up and walk half way across the room to pull the call chain so they could unhook my iv from the bed so I could go pee.)  I had twinges of pain, but as long as I had my pillow handy (to splint my stomach) I was ok.
Having a baby kicking on the backside of the staples, was the worst part of it, I think. If your scars are well healed from your RNY, they may go back in through them. My mother had her gallbladder removed laproscopicly and she was released the same day, with very little pain.

Hi Jeanna

I had my gallbladder removed in 94. Gallbladder disease includes inflammation, infection, stoes, or obstruction of the gall bladder. I had gallstones. I had it done the lap way, it was pretty easy for me, for ME i didnt have much pain, left the hopsital and took care of my 10 month old all by myself. Although pain and healing is different for everybody though.  The only thing different for me since then is my potty schedule lol.  Meaning I spent and still do spend alot of time on the bathroom.  The gallbladder stores bile for your body to use to break down fatty foods, so if its not there to store it and use it if you have had some thing fatty then well you dont digest it as well, so fair warning that if you eat something that is on the fatty, greasy or something like that, then stay close to a bathroom.  Before my WLS it was it was really bad, but since I dont eat as much of that it has gotten better.  This maybe to much info but I go at least 5 to 6 times a day. If I have normal stools then I know I am getting constipated.  That may not be for everybody but alot of people I know have the bathroom issues after surgery.  Hope that I have help ya some, sorry if it was to much info though ;)
