Joining Curves

I went for the free assessment at Curves last night and I'm really thinking about joining.  It's a lot less expensive than I thought and the initial fee of $200 is 50% off this month.  I'm scared I won't stick with it though and I have to sign a year contract.  Anyone else go to curves?  I'd love to hear some comments on this before I take the plunge.

Thanks for any input guys.

I don't do curves, but that joiner's fee seems pretty high even at 50%.  I love my gym, and have found it is pretty easy to stick to it.  With the economy alot of gyms are reducing fees and even waiving the joiner's fee entirely...I would shop around...

Thanks for the advice.  My problem is that we don't have other choices.  I live in Super Smalltown USA and it's one of the sacrifices we make.  I really appreciate your reply though.

I did a month to month. It was alittle higher that way but no joiners fee. They were very easy to cancel with. Jana

Jacqui when I joined Curves I joined through a program at www.globalfit.com they were partners with my insurance (UHC).  I paid a one time fee of $59 but was able to add my mom for free so two for $59, then they deducted $15 from my checking account twice a month.  Curves was one of the gym's I could choose and that is where I went.  I stuck to Curves faithfully for a year then switched to the Y at the end of my year.  I went to the Y six times the first month and then never again so I am going back to Curves in the fall.  See if this link will take you to the page to find out if you qualify either through your employer or insurance, to join through globalfit there are thousands of companies and insurances listed.

Wow Jeannie.  Thanks.  I'll check into it.  My cost is only $34/month.  I can add my daughter if I want and it will go up to $44/month.  I am going to wait a little while before adding my daughter.  I want to make sure I stick to it before I commit to another $10/month.  I'm really excited about it.  Thanks for sharing your experience with me!

Jana,  Thanks.  The lady I spoke with last night said cancelling isn't a problem but I will be signing a contract.  Did you go for long?  Do you mind me asking what happened to make you stop?  I just know how I was before surgery and couldn't commit to anything.  Of course that was then and this is now.

Thanks for sharing.

It was fine for about the first 6 months out of surgery, then I did not feel that it was challenging enough. I do feel that it is good for when you first start excersing. It helps you build up some stamina.

I use the Y here in Marion.  I went to curves a couple of times and was not impressed, I get alot of help from the staff at the Y.

I went to Curves for about 9 months. I enjoyed it, but I know that it wouldn't be enough for me now as I am getting thinner and want to do more heavy duty exercising. It was a great workout for just 30 minutes at a time though. I loved that they did my measurements every month, etc.
