Thank God I finally made it through a sleep study. My last one I tanked and went home crying at 2:30am! That's the good news...the bad news is I have sleep apnea. The nurse told me I wold be receiving a call to come back in and I guess sleep with my mask (when I get it)
Did anyone else have to go through this? How will this effect my surgery date? All I needed left was the sleep study and pre op blood work/urine taken...before getting a date! Getting closer!

hey Faye...
i am preop and was just told by my cardiac surgeon that i have sleep apnea and have to go in for a sleep study to officially be diagnosed and get my mask....
i know it may be a pain and may push back your surgery date...but it IS worth it....when i recently had heart surgery and didnt know for sure i had sleep apnea...they had a VERY difficult time getting me off of the ventilater..had they known things would have went better and there wouldn't have been such a struggle to get me off of the ventilater...not to mention the pain was tremendous!!!! BE GRATEFUL that you and your doctors now know...
hugs

I had my sleep study done at the end of August, 08. I was told that I stopped breathing 67 times per hour! More than once per minute!!
It doesn't normally affect your surgery date. I had to bring my C-Pap machine with me to the hospital. It affected my ability to wake up as quickly after surgery, and I had to have oxygen on the entire time I was in the hospital as my O2 rate dipped way down as I dozed off.
Now, I no longer need it. I haven't snored since about a month after surgery. I used to rattle the windows I'm told!
