Ulcer
Holly, I just went through this in March. Gie me a little more info. What are your symptoms? Have you been diagnosed with an ulcer? What is your surgeon saying? Can you eat at all? I had severe nausea everytime I ate and actually went about a week without eating/drinking before I called the doc. Ended up in the hospital, they checked everything out and couldn't find a cause. Initially said they thought it was from the Lexapro, so they stoppe that. Sent me home and it didn't improve, still couldn't eat. I got my picc line the following Monday. Started TPN and was on it for 3-4 weeks. They eventually diagnosed me with an ulcer (though Dr. Evanson doesn't believe the ulcer was what was causing all my issues). I was finally able to eat again and was taken off the tpn. I'm doing fine right now. Dr. Evanson believes that it was a hormonal thing causing the nausea. He said they have seen it in women my age (30's).

Good aftrnoon Melissa,
First off i had my RNY on 030209. I have been complaining to my surgeon's nurse that i had problems with keeping anything down including water. So I had an endoscopy on 05/16/09 and was diagnosised with an ulcer. My doctor prescribed 1 rx for the ulcer and another pill for my nausea. On the 16th they also gave me 2 bags of iv fluid to help with my dehydration. Nothing had really changed because i was still getting sick. On 051909 i was readmitted to the hospital. i was really glad i went because they had said that i was very dehydrated and my potassium was dangerously low. I stayed in the hospital for 4 days getting rehydrated but still unable to eat so my surgeon (Dr. Gupta) order me on TPN. I am still having problems eating but i guess i am getting my vitiamins though the TPN. I am just so tired of getting sick that i would rather walk around with an IV then to eat and get sick for hours at a time. As far as the nausa being caused by hormons i dont know but i am 49 and i think that your still a baby at 32 ...so we dont have the hormon thing in common.
Have a great night

Holly we sound very similar as when I was admitted my potassium was very low and I hwas having arrhythmias. I assume you are feeling better with the TPN? I felt much better after about 1 week of TPN. I hope you find that too. Please feel free to message me if you have anymore questions.

sorry i havent been on here for a while but i just went thru all this too! i had my surgery in oct. and had a scope done in nov and they said everything was ok, and at the end of feb i started getting sick to where i was vomitting 15-20 times a day adn could keep nothing down. at first i thought i had the flu and tried taking meds for that, and couldnt keep those down either. anyway... i went to my local er and was treated for dehydration (march 15thish) and went for another scope where they said i had an ulcer. they gave me some meds and said for me to try that and i should be WAAAYYYY better in a couple days... the following monday (almost a week later) i was still vomitting. i was still dehydrated, my potassium was low, all that jazz...i went back up and they put in a picc line and started tpn. i was on it for a month... my first 3 weeks dr jones told me to ONLY eat was ice chips and sugar free popsicles (and to not worry about trying to get my vitamins down bc i was getting them in my tpn). then i started on broth and things like that. i had to "prove" i could eat without the tpn. i had it taken out at the beginning of may. i am doing a lot better, but sometimes i still cant eat adn get sick. it is a day to day thing. there were a few days i litterally thougth i was going to die before they did the tpn, and i was asking myself why i went thru all this.. but now i am some better. it is taking me a long time to get up all my strength and energy, but it is better!!! i hope you are doing better and if you have any questions, feel free to message me back (i am going to be gone for a week so i dont know if i will have internet access).
have a great weekend!
