Getting ansy

Charlotte,

I think most do get a binder post-op. You'll wake up with it on. I didn't have one after my gall bladder either. That said, you may not. Each hospital and each surgeon has their own way of doing things. Most may use binders..but a few may not. My sister wasn't given any dietary guidance at all...I was given what is lovingly called the bariatric bible by many *****cieve it. Some have to go on a special liver reduction diet for months pre-op, others, just can't have anything after midnight the night before. I have never had a back-up IV for any surgery...well, except when I woke from a coma, I did have a pic line in with 3 ports then...but other than that, I've only had one IV/pic line port in each time.

You may want to bring this list of questions to your support meeting (if it's given by the hospital where you are going) or call up your surgeon's nurse and go over them with her. You'd be able to get more your-situation-specific answers that way.

As to what to bring, you know you the best. I brought a book & puzzle books. I used them both. Others say they didn't even open them. Once I got up out of the bed post-op, it hurt more to get out of it than the chair so I stayed in the chair if I wasn't walking most of my time there. I got through several puzzles. I had Tiffany bring me my laptop for another hospital stay...and I used it several times a day. TV bores me...and if the pain meds don't knock me out, I don't want to just lay there. So...I type or do puzzles or read. You know you the best.

I hear you on the tv being boring. There are only a couple shows I can really stand. Unless, of course, there are Jane Austen movies on. YAY!
I tend to spend a lot of my spare time (with 2 kids..that's a joke. I'm sitting down right now between serving lunch to the youngest and doing dishes) listening to audio books and playing puzzle games on my computer. I do have one of my audio books on my husband's mp3 player, and have been trying to walk a little longer every day, by listening to that.  May see if I can use that walking around the hospital, to take my mind off how I feel. Doubt I'll be walking long enough at one time to get far, though.

I will ask my surgeon's office tomorrow, since I will be getting my "bible" tomorrow from my nut.  Thanks
