I SAY GET IN THERE AND FIGHT FOR WLS. Call her/him back..tell her your depressed because your overweight and you want this more then anything. If you don't fight for your own health care who else will? Its a journey and its your journey. You have to do whatever it takes to get you from point A to point B and that means jumping through all the insurance hoops. This is your life..don't waste another day being miserably fat...BUCKLE UP BUTTERCUP and stand up for yourself! OXOX

Hey girl.. I have been in a similar situation. I didn't cry in my appointment with Dr. Inman, but I was honest with the little guy psychologist. I have a mood disorder. I have taken meds for it for a long time, and had a regular psychologist even before surgery.

My take on it was this: they are not looking for reasons to deny you surgery. They are looking for what you need to be successful with it. I was required to continue with my personal counselor and attend 4 support groups prior to surgery. I am glad I did it. I am glad I continued with her.

That first year especially, for me, after surgery was total upheaval. It was exciting and felt wonderful to lose weight and be able to do new things. And yet at the same time, I lost a MAJOR coping mechanism. She helped me work on that and helped me be successful in my weight loss.

So my opinion is, go for it, try the counseling. I think it can only help.

In regards to Anthem with State of Indiana? I have Anthem Traditional II. We have no deductible because of the non-tobacco user agreement. I saw Dr. Inman in August and had surgery in November. They approved me before I had even completed the six months supervised diet, that they said they require. Woohoo!!!

I also was required to complete additional counseling.  It did not stop the surgery and I am happy I received the couseling.  It made a big difference in my life and contributed to my success with RNY.
