Wendy...and all those who weren't here forever and a day...

In September 2007, I had a tummy tuck & thigh lift done. I had some respritory issues afterwards (from either pnumonia or blood clot in my lung...depends on which doctor you talk to). After that, my intestines were either twisted or something but the entire small intestines (~17 feet) lost the blood supply to them. They had to do emergency surgery and cut me from sternum to pelvis to get to them. After a harrowing next few months (see my profile), they took care of a hernia that had developed because of that big incision and all that had happened. It left me with my abdominal wall completely open and mesh being the divider between my intestines and skin. Because this mesh has flexibility, my intestines pooch out..alot. My waist was 36" right after they put the mesh in and it's 39-40" now and distends a few more inches every day. I can only wear elastic waisted pants and I look like I'm ~6 months pregnant in the morning and ~8 months or so along by evening. The opening is about the size of a basketball.

On June 9th, they will be removing all the mesh and the scar tissue attached to it. They will manuever my abdominal muscle to try to close up that opening. If they can't get it completely closed up, I may have to go in for another surgery later one to get it the rest of the way.

My wall has been opened since October 2007...so  it will be 1 yr and 8 months by the time it is closed up. I've also had diarrhea and intestinal spasms since that time.

I have had open wounds on my belly and on desk duty at work since March 2008. This is also when the intestinal distension became noticeable.

This was NOT because of my plastics and it was NOT because of my WLS. It was a weird fluke. Yes, it's one that everyone should be aware of can happen...but it can happen with ANY kind of abdominal surgery including c-sections and appendix. for more specifics, please read my profile. And please remember that the docs know what the risks are because they can and do happen. I'm not trying to scare anyone out of having their surgeries!! WLS was a miracle for me and I'd do it again in a heartbeat....but I would also want to slap someone silly who tried to tell me that WLS is 'taking the easy way out'.

Holy Moly!!!  What great news!!!  I know you are thrilled.  Hopefully the time will fly by and you'll be all closed up.

Should I try to change the date of Holiday World so you'll be all closed up?  I tried once already but it never hurts to try again.  Let me know.

I'm so happy this is finally happening for you.

Love you,
Jacqui

Jacqui,

When is it suppose to be? We are thinking about bringing our 5 yr old granddaughter with us this year.

I doubt I would be able to ride on anything for quite awhile afterward so if Holiday World is scheduled before June 9th, that would work out great for us.

huggs!

WOW! You have been through a lot. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction. I have read snippets of your story but I really appreciate your summing it up for us that are relatively new to the board. Thanks again and good luck.

Doing the happy dance with you!

I hope you fly thru this with no problem and they are able to get it done in one shot.  I know you will have some tough times to get thru it.  It sounds so painful.  But I also know this is the rainbow you have been looking for!

Huge hugs and I am happy for you!
Tracy
