Having a Tracheotomy
Well I went to the Pulmonary Dr. yesterday and he gave me the final release for surgery on Tues. He recommend that I have a TRACHEOTOMY to help reduce some of the risk factor in my case. I'm on 24 hr. oxygen so am considered in the higher risk factor for surgery.
My surgeons office (Dr. Evanson) called later in the day and wanted to know if I still wanted to go through with the surgery and have the Tracheotomy done. I had most of the day to think about it when she called so I said everything was still a go on my end..I probably won't have it in more than a week but it could be two. What it will help do is keep the Co'2 from building up in my system. I'm keeping my chin up and thankful that I'm on anti-depressants

Mike, it sounds like that is definately the safer route for you to go. It's much easier to give a patient oxygen and assist with their breathing when there is a trach in place. It can be very short term, but could save your life! Those antidepressants don't hurt either, do they? When is your surgery? Dr. E was my surgeon too.

Mike, I'd be happy to message you my cell number and then you can have someone from your family call me with an update and I'd be happy to post it here so everyone knows how you're doing if you're interested.

Melissa: I appreciate that but I don't know when any family will be there so they could call and I don't think I'll be able to talk for a few days because of the throat surgery. Here's something funny..........I'm driving myself to the hospital. I'm hoping my brother can make it there before surgery. I live in New Castle and he lives in Bloomington....My aunt was going to take me but her Dr. put her in the hospital Wed.. Have a good one. MIKE
Mike, that's nuts! Where do you live? I'd be happy to pick you up and take you to the hospital. You won't be able to drive yourself home, you know! ;o)

Melissa: Not to worry, I'm not going to drive home. My brother is going to get my car home and also take me home when I'm released. I really appreciate the kind offer. You seem like a very very kind and generous person don't ever lose that because it's a gift and not everyone has it. I feel that I'm in that category with you so we're SPECIAL.........MIKE
Mike, I just feel like this is a big surgery and a strong support system is important. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you.
