New jeans

I had finally had enough of my Hubby and my Mom telling me that my jeans were a crime against nature and went in search of a new pair of jeans.  Frankly, I kind of liked that my old jeans were too big.  It represented a change in my weight to me; a tangible, visible change that I could not deny.  Yes, I realize that I have lost weight but when your jeans are sagging, it is obvious.  Anyway, I had heard enough and wanted to get some new jeans.

I went to Lane Bryant, where I have purchased my clothes for more years than I can remember and tried on a smaller pair.  They were too big.  I tried on the smallest pair they had at that store and they were too big.  I left not really knowing where to go next.  This was new territory.  I headed for Macy's thinking that they would have a wider selection.

They did have a lot of choices.  Too many choices with name brands I have never heard of before in my life.  I was looking perplexed because a salesperson asked me if I was alright.  I explained to her that I was looking for new jeans and I had never shopped there before.  She was very kind and explained the sizing to me.  Did you know that some brands now have sizes like 30, 31, 32?  This instead of size 10, 12, 14!  It is so ironic that I have been trying to get into a smaller size all my life and just when I am finally getting there, they change the sizing so that it is a larger number.

Anyway, I tried on at least ten pairs of jeans before finally finding something that worked and I liked.  I settled on a pair of jeans by Michael Kors - size 14.  Smallest pair of jeans I have ever purchased.  My next shock was the sticker price!  Holy cow!  $100!!!  Are you kidding me?!  How can they be less material and cost double what I would have paid before the weight loss?  Fortunately, they were on sale of 50% off or I swear I would have left them there.  Mind you I left the belt there because it was $45!  I have added a some new holes in my old belt and it will have to do for now.  Why would I spend as much on the belt as I did on the jeans, honestly.

Out of habit, I went back to Lane Bryant to look for a new top to go with the jeans and tried on three different tops.  Again all of them were too big.  I guess it never occurred to me that nothing there would fit me anymore.  I didn't think to buy a top at Macy's because I have always been top heavy and just assumed that nothing there would fit me.

I am going to have to change my whole thought process when it comes to clothes shopping.  I don't mind leaving Lane Bryant behind with my lost weight.  But I have to admit, it takes some adjusting to embrace that there is a whole new world of choices out there and take a leap into the unknown.  It was surprising and unexpected that it would be so complicated.  It's like speaking a foreign language.

I have been going to Goodwill to get jeans. I refuse to pay full price for something that I might only wear a month!!  I haven't been disappointed yet either. I can see the sizes going down....24...22...20...18...16...14...wooohooooo!!
You might give that a try. I haven't paid but 4.00 for anyone pair. And some days they have things marked half off.
Just a thought

Blessings to you all, Leah

I still try to try on sizes that are too big for me cuz that is what is normal for me.  Then I think what the heck am i doing lol. I still see the big girl in the mirror so its hard for me to say hey you need to start much lower when trying stuff on.  I still have a few pairs of jeans and capri's that I just love that are too big for me and still wear. Matter of fact i just went to texas in march and took a pair of them with me and my girlfriend that I went to visit said OOOH MY you are gonna lose those things lol so she got a belt from her sister to make sure i wouldnt lol.  Its such a great feeling but such a hard habit to break.  You are doing great. So dont short change yourself when looking for new clothes!!!!!

All I can say is - that is totally awesome.  I cannot wait until I get where you are.  You have apparently done well and I admire your diligence, it has paid off.

Congratulations,

What a wonderful thing for you to have to deal with!  I've been there recently with the whole jean thing and I was ROYALLY ticked at the Fashion Bug because they've gone to the wacked out sizes too.  I've worked hard to get out of those size 32's and to be frank I'll be DAMNED if I'll buy me another pair of them just because the want to do some stupid "resizing" thing in the jean industry! LOL

Like most of the girls I hang at the goodwill but I've found JcPenney works well for me too.  I stood in the middle of the clothes looking dumbfounded and finally asked the sales lady where the non plus size clothes were... thankfully she'd had the RNY too and recognized the look of the "meltdown" that was fixing to happen! LOL

Lady J - here's a newsflash for you - LANE BRYANT doesn't need your business anymore girl - you can buy stuff ANYWHERE now you have a choice of where you can shop!!!!  WOOHOO!!

Lady J, isn't it great? Now, I don't think I'd spend $50 on jeans, but it's so fun to try on smaller sizes and see them fit. I also shop GoodWill or Wal-Mart for my clothes. No sense in spending tons of money on clothes you will only wear a month or two.

Take care and congrats!!

First Congrats!  Shopping will become adictive!!!

Oh Ladies but the number sizing (27,29,30) is a good thing!!!!!  I have always had expensive taste in clothing and the skinny people jeans have always had that size, ( its directly related ti inches in your waist) I hated that I was so fat I could never buy nice jeans becasue they never came large enough.  I am quite happy to leave my 22/24s behind for a 25!!!  ( Although I do like the sound of the size 4 shorts I just bough at Kohls too :)

Happy Friday All!!!!!!!!!!!
