Way OT: Vacuums?

I really want a new vacuum cleaner but I am lost as to how to find a good one.  They are too expensive to just roll the dice and buy one.  I've not been happy with the last couple...okay, maybe I've never been happy with any vacuum I've ever owned.

What kind of vacuum do you have and LOVE???

I know everyone swears by Dyson, I wish I had one too but I don't.  A couple years ago I needed a new vaccum cleaner and since my husband belongs to Consumer Reports online magazine I read up on them.  I took the advise of CR and bought a Hoover Widepath Tempo, I highly reccommend it for the money ($59).  I have used it for two years and it works like it did on day one, my mom also has one that she loves.  So if you want one that is budget friendly this is the way to go.  I had to buy mine online because it wasn't available locally. www.homebrands.com

EDITED:  Because the picture of the vacuum I was referencing was making everyones reponse hard to read.

Sorry, I know that I am not a regular poster but my doc's office advertises here on this board and am a frequent lurker.

I have a Dyson DC 17 Animal. I know, I know it is pricey but I never have to buy filters AT ALL and that in itself is a blessing. Do not roll the dice, consider what filters in the future you need to buy and have on hand.

Now you will just need to do is research all the brands on the Internet. When I was just about ready to buy mine I had a long haired cat. Unfortunately, she died but I went ahead and bought it and have not been sorry at all as it has great suction power and I have all the attachments. My wand for the stairs ( in addition to the bare floors and carpet suction) goes up all 13 stairs and I never have to go down and bring the unit up and continue on my carpeted steps.

You have to be the decision maker and what your budget can handle - now and in the future.

ps needed to add that my great niece bought the Hoover Wind Tunnel and I think she said that she needs buy two seperate filters, where is the savings in that?

Guess what?  I bought a Dyson Animal today at Lowe's in Avon!!

Hubby relented after trying to run the vacuum and it wasn't picking up the cat hair without 3-4 passes.

OMG - that vacuum is heavenly!  I couldn't believe all the junk it pulled up out of the carpet!  My carpet looks like new!  I love it.

I have a Hoover.  I REALLY want a Dyson.  I keep asking hubby - he keeps saying no....   He doesn't like the cost.  We have 3 cats, one of whom is a long haired Maine Coon.  There's fur everywhere.  That's why I want a Dyson Animal.

Personally, I've always wanted one of those Rainbow vacs, but could/would never afford it.  I have a wind tunnel now and it is okay, not great.  It's definitely seen better days as I need to invest in a new one as well.  Thanks all for the info.  I've heard the Hoover is good and I don't know much about Dyson, but sounds like you all have some experience with it.  Thanks for the info!
By the way Annette, .....what did you do for that Klondike bar?

Christina, I used to have a Rainbow.  I got rid of it several years ago.  It was a pain emptying the water tank.  That in itself was disgusting.

I've had a Rainbow, a Kirby, an Electrolux, and Hoovers.  I'd have to say of those, the Kirby was the best and the easiest to use.

And I also want to know what Annette did for that Klondike bar!!

I just bought a rainbow.. it uses water as a filter and makes mud when your finished to pour out. ( take it outside and pour it.. it conditions the air too while your sweeping.. good suction and does hardwood, carper and furniture.. I like it.
