Ellen's SIL Karen
I just got off the phone with Ellen....
Karen was diagnosed with ovarian (not cervical) cancer five years ago. At the time, they gave Karen 6 months to live because it had already spread to her other organs. Ellen said it was compared to a dandilion..when you blow on one, the seeds go everywhere. By the time they discovered the ovarian cancer, it was in stage 4 and had already spread to her stomach & lungs. It ultimately also went into her liver & kidneys. The family are just thankful that it didn't go to her brain and that Karen was aware of everything/everyone up until a few days ago.
I think it's a true testiment to Karen's nature to know that she lived 4 1/2 years past what the doctors had given her. She tried her best to not let it affect her life for the first 2 1/2 years. Even here at the end, she wanted to live to see her 62d birthday, and she did not want to die on April Fool's day. Yes, Karen was a very strong woman. The cancer may have taken over her body, but it did not take over her spirit.
Please continue to keep Ellen & Dana and their family in your prayers. Ellen & Dana have been married for 44 years..so Ellen has lost a long-time friend as well as a sil.

Crying.... heart breaking...
And though I said cervical in my last post... my diagnosis was cervical cancer offically because that's the cancer visuably dectected... but also listed was undected stage 2 uterine/possible ovarian cancer. They don't know which came first.. the cervical... uterine... ovarian... so my opologizes if my statement was misleading or hurt feelings.

Dearest Friends,
Thank you for all the support & prayers, as we continue to prepare for Karen's funeral. Our hearts are breaking yet rejoicing . She was such a loving ,giving person, that she donated her eyes so that others could see.She was one of the most amazing women I have ever met- she never complained about her pain, and up till the very last was thanking anyone who came in contact with her, and praising God.
Due to her donation of sight, they just now making plans for her funeral. Her name is
Karen J. Hughes
Myers Mortuary
Lebanon,In. 46052
Showing 4-7pm. Monday April 6, service at 7pm.
She is being cremated, & private family burial to follow.
We have cried tears of loss and sorrow, yet because we believe she is at peace with Jesus now, we rejoice that she is in His presence- no more pain, no more sorrow. The christian songs "I can only Imagine "& "I will Rise" have spoke to my heart today.
Jo, you didn't hurt or offend me. This is why I asked Sherri post what she did-
I want every woman to know that they should always have a pap test, regardless of if they still can bear children or not. Unless you have had a hysterectomy, you should. Karen didn't have one since 40, & that was part of the problem. If she had, perhaps this would have been detected sooner. As it was, she had already gone to the endstage. In our family, my daughter has cervical cancer, they have lost their great grandma, aunt & now sister to this desease, & father to postrate, liver, & brain cancer. So please, don't hesitate friends, if cancer runs in your family, or not, please do take care of yourself.
I ask you keep our family in your prayers during this time. The hardest part will be after as well, because she was the hub that turned the wheel in her family- she has 2 daughters, 1 son ,and husband Kenny, plus 8 grandchildren & 4 great-grandchildren that her life touched & blessed. No telling how many lives she has touched along her path of 62 yrs.
We are so blessed & grateful,
Ellen Dana

Ellen, You know how much I love you Sweetie. You know if I could be there with you I would. I'm so sorry you've lost this special person in your life but am so blessed by your rejoicing of her uniting with Jesus. Troy sings in a lot of funerals and my favorite song he does is called "With Hope". I'll find the lyrics and post them. It really puts things in perspective for those of us who lose loved ones who know they've gone onto something grander.
I'm praying for you and your family my friend.
Smooches,
Jacqui
