Dr. Huse rarely uses them and when he does, it seems to be on his open RNYer's. I had Dr. Gupta as did my sister and we had the drains. My best friend had Dr. Huse and he didn't put one in her at all. I think it is doctor preference and also the size of the person at the time of the surgery. Dr. Huse did put a drain in someone I know who started out around 400 lbs.
The other side of it is the length of time the tube is required. Some people get theirs out before leaving the hospital. I had to keep mine for a week. So who knows!!!
I hope you are doing well.
Take care and Huge hugs,
Tracy

My surgeon (the great Dr Mandelbaum) uses them but he takes them out before you leave the hospital. That was five days for me and there was hardly anything draining by the fifth day. That is the only time I got upset in the hospital was when they were going to take the drains out. I cried lol....but really its nothing at all, I didn't feel a thing. I just put my pillow over my head so I couldn't see what was going on lol. When I look back it seems so silly.
