Doctors/Therapists for Eating Disorders?

Can anyone recommend a GOOD doctor or therapist who has experience with eating disorder patients?  It's been five months since my RNY, I've not lost any weight in the last 6 weeks, I'm depressed, eating just like I did before I had the surgery and so scared.  If someone could recommend someone in the central or west central IN area, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank You

Sending hugs your way

Jenn I have heard wonderful things about the emotional eating classes at St Francis.  Me and my mother intend to register for the next session.  I copied and pasted the following from the web site.

Emotional Eating Support Group

The Emotional Eating Support Group is for anyone trying to lose weight and struggling with emotional overeating, also known as compulsive overeating or binge eating.

Occasional emotional eating isn't a problem for most people. After all, that's what makes comfort food so appealing. Like many people, you may see****asional solace in a bowl of ice cream or a slice of pizza after a bad day.

But turning to food every time you have unpleasant feelings—or even positive ones—can lead to weight gain.

If you've been an emotional eater for a long time, you may find it difficult to stop on your own. Finding a support group for people dealing with similar issues can provide guidance for dealing with emotional eating.

The Emotional Eating Support Group at the St. Francis Weight Loss Center is for anyone trying to lose weight and struggling with emotional overeating, also known as compulsive overeating or binge eating.

This group offers support to patients struggling with emotional eating, or using food for reasons other than physical hunger and feeling unable to stop the behavior. The program offers education, as well as group support.

Upcoming sessions include:

Mondays, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., beginning Jan. 5

The groups will be led by Holly Pittman, L.C.S.W., A.C.I.T. Holly is a therapist at the St. Francis Weight Loss Center. She has extensive experience providing individual, couples, and group therapy to patients with eating, mental health and addiction issues.

Location: St. Francis Weight Loss Center, 5230A E. Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis, IN 46237

Cost: $50 for six sessions. Payment is due upon registration and is non-refundable. Visa and MasterCard are accepted with convenient payment by phone.

Registration: Call (317) 782-7525 to register. Space is limited.

I appreciate the support ladies.  I am too embarrassed to talk to the people at St. V's.  Last time I went to my surgeons office he had said how pround he was of my progress, I have another appointment in a couple of weeks, and he will probably die when he realizes I haven't lost but 10 lbs since the last time I saw him.

I am going to check into the classes that Jeannie suggested, so thank you Jeannie.  I keep telling myself tomorrow is a new day and I will get back to what I'm supposed to be doing, but then life happens, stress happens and I find myself back to eating everything on the "NO" list.

I'm gonna hang in there and just do what I can. I just wanted to say thanks for all of the support.

I have heard the best place for eating disorders around Indy is someplace called the Lotus Group. There's another in the area called Charis Center. Good luck, I hope this helps.

I plan on seeing a therapist during and after surgery. You might call your insurance and see if it is covered. I never had seen any info anywhere about it but I called to find out about my psych evaluation and found out I can go 25 times a year with only a $25 co pay. You never know you might get lucky. Also if you go to myuhc.com and look to the right there is an area to find a mental health clinician. You can search by your zipcode and also add in bariatrics and eating disorders. That might find you someone regardless of who your insurance is.

I also used to attend overeaters anonymous. I believe they have a website and there are meetings everywhere. It was really helpful at the time, and free.

Good luck on your journey. You are def not alone!

Don't feel alone, I am with you.  I had my surgery the week before yours and just this week got over a 7 week stall.  I did fall into my old habits some but I got back on track for the most part.  I don't know if the stall is normal but I was there too.   Just try to remember the big picture and start back with the basics... you can do it.
