General Insurance question

I have Anthem/Blue Cross Blue Shield.  Anyone else have this type of insurance?  The surgeons office had a list of insurance companies and their general requirements, but I just wondered if this insurance had alot of "red tape."  I know the surgeons office will help walk me through it, I just wondered if anyone had any experience?

Thanks!!

I have anthemBC/BS At first Amy thought I would have to have 3 months of supervised wt loss, but my insurance approved me without any requirements. I have type two diabetes. That may have helped getting it thru. Good luck to you! Wendy

Jaime,

Sometimes the amount of red tape or the amount if the deductible isn't the insurance company as much as it is the way their contract with your employer reads. I didn't have to pay anything for my surgery through Anthem..but I know others who had to pay 20%.

To get an idea of what your policy states, call the customer number on the back of your insurance ID card. That's what I did when I had my plastics. They were very helpful and even mailed me a copy of their policy regarding all plastics.

Jamie, Anthem also has many different states that hold their policies.  YRP is the Indiana group and they seem to go thru the easiest according to Amy.  I was on that one at the time of my surgery and it did go thru within 6 weeks.  However, I am now on my husband's insurance thru Anthem in Alabama (don't know how or why they choose the area) but it is a little more picky about things then the YRP group was.  You can find out by looking on your group card which location holds your policy.

I called and had them fax me the exact requirements for the surgery so that I could educate myself and arm myself for the battle if they did try to delay or deny me.

Good luck and hope it all goes thru smoothly for you.

Huge hugs,
Tracy

Jamie if your Anthem is through Indiana I can send you the requirements that they hold on medical policy for the different types of WLS.  Just PM me or if its another state Anthem for that matter I can get that also.
