I am having a CT scan tomarrow with contrast at St. V's around noon.  Please jar my memory It's been a long time since I had one of these.  Give me details, details, details ladies about what they do.  I forgot.   ***Anyone want to meet me afterwards for lunch?I'd love to get together with you.  I'm flexible on time and place.

Tell me why you all have this done if you would.  I have some pain going on but don't know the cause, as yet.  All my bloodwork is really good.  Talked to Dr. Kaderabek quite a while yesterday about what we should pursue.

No vomiting, no strictures, no problems eating, but do have intermitent diarrhea for no apparent reason such as when I eat banana's and even my protein bars, which I've eaten the same one for years now.  And it is like dumping.  Sometimes I have an empty stomach and get diarrhea.

hugs,
Kathy

Kat,

Most of my CT's with contrast has been to see if I either had a hernia taking place or if my intestines had a blockage. What they did with me was start an IV (but not start the contrast yet), run some scans...and then start the contrast & run some more scans. Other than the pain in my stomach which brought me there to start with, getting the IV started was the only thing that hurt (since I'm a really hard stick).

I am assuming that your pain is in your abdomon. I do hope they find the problem quickly. When I had my internal hernia's, they weren't able to pick up on them with the CT because they weren't kinked at that moment. Dr. Gupta went ahead and did an exploratory and I had 3 internal hernias (none of which showed up on the CT). When my intestines were ischemic, it did show up on the CT.

Wish I could help better but considering my own diarrhea/abdnominal issues, that's about the best I can guestimate....

Good luck..and I sincerely hope that it is none of the above...

Kathy, I've had 2 in the last month or so. With both of mine, I also had oral contrast in addition to the IV contrast. It tasted like orange crystal light, not bad at all. I had to take about 5-6 sips. Hope they figure out what is causing your issues.

That's what I had in February.  I had to drink 2 - 12 oz cups of contrast that they had mixed with Lemonade Crystal Light.   It was very, very cold.  One cup per hour.  Then they called me back and they started an IV.  The first 10 minutes was just pictures, the next 5 minutes with iv contrast.  Made my mouth taste "tinny" and caused me to have the sweats.  Said that was usual.    Done in 15 minutes!   Just be sure you wear clothes that don't have any metal in them or at least bring some with you to change.  I wore jeans there and changed into my workout clothes.  I really didn't want to wear their "wardrobe" if you know what I mean!

Good luck----you won't feel a thing!

Blessings,

Lois :)
