I have begun looking at lean cuisine meals and weigh****cher meals as an option for work. I can't just fix myself sandwiches anymore! ;o) Wondering what carb amount you all try to stay under?

Thanks.

Melissa,

You may want to ask your nut for these guidelines for your particular situation. I know when I asked (~a yr post op) I was told to target ~100 g of carbs for the day with at least 30 g of it being fiber. If you go too much under that, you go into ketosis..and that isn't good for your muscles.

Melissa, when I buy them, I always look for ones that have meat and veggies only - no seafood, pasta, rice or potatoes, since those are things we cannot have yet.

I make sure the sugar is 5g or less, and that carbs are under 20.

Glad you're able to eat again!!

Sherri's nut and mine are in agreement on the 100 - 125 grams of carbs per day based on a 1000 - 1200 calorie a day diet.  You can go to the lean cusine web site and pick out a few that are under 20 grams of carbs, write these ones down and then go shop or you will be like me starring at the case beging totally confused and overwhelmed.  I use the lean cusines when I am in a hurry because they are quick and portion control is built in.

I really prefer to make a chicken white chilli or a zuchinni lasagna or turkey taco meat and measure them out into baggies and freeze.

Jeannie, could I possibly get a recipe for chicken white chili? Sounds yummy. Also, what do you do with the turkey taco meat when you use it? Do you put it on salads or what? Just looking for some variety in my food choices.

Jeannie -

That's exactly what I did.  I went to the Lean Cuisine and Smart Ones websites, and looked for ones that were only meat and veggies -  then looked through those to find ones that were under 20g of carbs and 5g or less in sugars.  I wrote those down and looked specifically for those at the store.

Lean cuisine has a garlic chicken that's good, and there is also a turkey medallion and green bean dinner.  Smart Ones has a Santa Fe chicken and diced veggie dinner that is good also.

I recently found a beef tips and broccoli/cauliflower lean cuisine that looks good.

I work long hours, and I'm pooped by the time I get home.  Doing a lot of cooking isn't something I have time to do anymore.

About once or twice a month, I'll make a big batch of chili.  I'll portion out the leftovers and eat that for lunch - either alone or over lettuce as a taco salad.  I'm on a taco salad kick lately.

The frozen dinners make a great lunch when I haven't had time to cook.  I can get nearly two entire meals out of one Lean Cuisine at this stage.  I am such a cheap date.....

Christie, I'm a cheap date too. We ate at Bob Evans tonight and I got their turkey lurkey kids meal. Sliced turkey breast with green beans and some fruit. I ate about 1/3 of it and brought the leftovers home. Too bad they tacked $2.00 on to the cost of the kids meals, so it was still $4.99. I have done a side salad or a cup of soup for a meal at a restaurant and only spent $2.00 before.

Chicken white chili is easy easy easy to make ... I use1 pound of  ground turkey or about two shredded chicken breasts, one package of chicken white chili season package, and two cans of white beans. Top with sour crea, cheese, salsa, or anything that sounds appealing to ya.
