Hello Tisha,

When did you get out of the hospital?  I was wondering how you were doing, so I am glad to see you are back.

I am not sure about the question, when I checked the book it is not clear, it looks as if you have it weeks 1-4, but email or call the dietitian or leave a message for them.  I hate that whole leaving a message concept, but if they call back promptly, it may not be too bad.

I think the book needs a paragraph that is clearer.  the yellow pages state "you may be started on protein supplements between meals once you are tolerating liquids well.  Your diet may be changed at any time as deemed appropriate by your surgeon during your hospital stay"

This is after the paragraph after "What will I be eating in the hospital"  Then it goes straight to "4 weeks following surgery: full liquids".

I guess I should be asking the same question.  Tomorrow is my big day.

Lisa

Just focus on taking care of yourself at first and get past the first few days. You will have to eat like a baby for the first few weeks and you won't get it all in at first. It takes a while. I remember thinking, how was I going to get all of this in. Especially when I started eating there seemed to be no way or room for liquids and food. You will find a balance. I didn't have to worry about head hunger for the few several weeks. I just wasn't hungry and I was so darn focused because of all I went through to rearrange my body.
Take it slow and you will be fine.
Good Luck and welcome to the losers bench!!
Be Well  : )

So glad you're home and doing ok. As for the protein, I was told by the dietician to wait on the protein until you are getting all your fluids in, because that was more important. But then, I struggled with dehydration for quite a while.

I'm glad I was able to stop up and say hi. Sorry I couldn't stay longer.

You need to be sure you can pass gas because protein shakes and drinks will cause you to have gas.  If you can't pass it.... OUCH!!!!!   Gas pains are not fun.  I was told by my NUT that protein shakes and drinks count toward your daily allowance of fluids too.  So you may want to ask them that question as well.  It seems to be a subject of debate on here.  So the bottom line is go with what the NUT or Doc has to say.

As for getting everything in... you won't for a few weeks but just keep trying.  Especially your fluids.... dehydration is ugly!

Best wishes and welcome to becoming a fellow loser!!!

Huge hugs,
Tracy

Oh, and everything you've heard about the gas smelling so bad it will peel the paint right off your walls - well, it's true.

Welcome to the losers bench sweetie!

Yep!  I second everything Christie says!    The more you are able to walk, the better it will help with the explosions.  Personally, I just blame it on our .  LOL  Also, remember to sip sip sip!  You are well on your way!
