Spirometer
Did anyone have trouble doing their spirometer exercise daily prior to surgery. I am not sure why this is such a struggle for me.
Perhaps I am tired and a little depressed about this gout attack so close to my surgery date and the hours I am currently working.
I can get to my goal of 2100 easily but doing it 10 times four times a day it tough. Am I just lazy or what?
Has anyone else experienced this?
I appreciate your comments!

I will admit that I am only doing mine 2 twice a day. Once in the morning before going to work and then once when I get home from work.....and maybe (big maybe) when I remember, I do it before bed.
So for me it's just finding the time and remembering to do it. You're not alone.
We are getting closer to our day!

I can't believe you three ladies have been lucky enough to be given the same surgery date!!
I am a patient of St Francis and we didn't have to do the spirometer at home before surgery, only in the hospital afterwards. However, I think its a good idea if your surgeon has requested you to start doing it that you get compliant and do as you are told. You are going to have to become accostumed to a routine or you will never get your vitamins and proteins in after surgery. You would have walked to the ends of the earth a few weeks ago to have surgery and now you won't breath in a spirometer??? Get it together ladies!!
Just saying..ya know.
Hugssss,
Jeannie

33 lbs lost prior to surgery!
I was compliant in doing my spirometer like I was supposed to do it. Little things don't seem to make that much of a difference but all those little things put together make a big difference. If you are willing to be lax on THIS one little thing then there is the possibility that you will be lax on something else. Like Jeannie said, it is just blowing into a spirometer for pete sake. YOU are worth it so make the time for it. This is the beginning of your new lives.
Think how many times a day you are going to have to remember to take vitamins and calcium and drink water and get your protein in and.................
no better time than now to get in the game ladies. And you will say to yourself a million times, this one little thing, or bite, won't hurt, but believe all of us when we say, IT WILL.
Dr. Evanson spoke at the Kokomo Meeting last night. One lady has not stopped smoking yet and I believe her surgery date is 2 weeks away. I may be mistaken. I'm not a smoker but whatever the date was, he was very adament in telling her that she should stop immediately!!!
He said the top 2 reasons a surgery will be delayed is nicotene in your system and your diabetes being out of control. He said if a patient can't comply with stopping smoking then they won't be successful at keeping the weight off either.
All of us need to be willing from the get go to make committments to the surgery and give some things up, no matter what it takes.
I will see all 3 of you next Tuesday and we will go walking in the halls.
hugs,
Kathy
